Orsay Museum.
On your left you cannot fail the impressive façade of the Orsay station built in 1900for the world exhibition.
This former railroas station has been converted into an extraordinary museum: the Orsay Museum: dedicated to the XIX th century art production.
Impressionist masterpieces can be seen there.

ORSAY MUSEUM

ORSAY MUSEUM - masterpieces of Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas... delicate brush strokes of Renoir, the serious self-portrait of Van Gogh, the radiance of a Monet's landscape amongst other artistic marvels.

Below are two mentions Of Georges Rodenback. One is his gravesite in Paris and the other is a portrait of him that hangs in the Orsay Museum. Read his novel called Bruges-la-Morte....

Monet – Orsay Museum

by aliante1981

Now, to the second part of the pair I always mixed up, namely to Claude Monet. Now, the painting in the photo is ‘Blue Waterlilies’, done in 1919, but the Monet faves for me in the Orsay museum are the ‘Rouen Cathedral’ series. Monet has frequently done paintings in series – waterlilies are from a series, too. Back to the matter of Rouen Cathedrals, however.
In the 1890s Monet created close to 30 paintings of Rouen’s cathedral, though only several of them are now in the Orsay Museum (among them Rouen Cathedral: Full Sunset). He studies the effects of changing lights of its facades (he preferred the south-western point in particular), putting much more emphasis on colour than on the shape. Monet said he got the inspiration for the series when he watched how the lights were falling on a simple shape of a country church.

From airport to Orsay

by paris777

Could you please advice on how to get from the C Gaulle airport to the Hotel d'Orsay (next to the museum) by public transp? thanks

Re: From airport to Orsay

by nygaston

A good option will be to take the RER A to St Michel then the RER C to Orsay Museum.

Another option: Air France Bus from CDG to Invalides, then the Bus 73 or the RER C or the metro to Orsay Museum (Metro Station).

With luggage and small children, I recommend you take a cab. No walking, no transfers, no getting lost, perhaps the shortest en route time - 50 euros.

I'd allow 90 minutes for the trains. It may take a little less, if the wait for the next train is short (they run frequently.) Some of the trains in from the airport make fewer stops and run a little faster (maybe 15 minutes faster) but is usually faster to jump on the next train headed to your destination then it is to wait for the express.

Enjoy!

Orsay is closed on Monday because it is their usual closing day.
In my opinion, after looking at the museum program, is all the museums which are usually open on Monday will be also open 9th April.
I am sure for Louvre because Easter is not a closing day for them.
May be some museums can have closed rooms because a lack of staff.

Have a good visit

Tours

Hello,
We would like to do half and full day tours in Paris, Rome and London because of limited time in each city. Is it good enough to book it when we get to the hotels or should we book way ahead of time and online? Thank you.

I don't know about Rome, but with limited time in Paris and London I would book ahead.

In Paris, you can do the hop on/hop off bus tour....plan ahead of time what sights/venues you want to see. We did quick trips through the Orsay Museum and managed to get to the top of the Eiffel, in addition to many other things. Go to the Eiffel just before dusk (maybe an hour) - we were in line only 15 minutes and had a breathtaking view of sunset over Paris. We were in Paris only a day and a half, yet managed to see quite a bit. Planning ahead is the key....Gray Line offers many tours, you should check their website, but for those special events that you don't want to miss, I would book ahead. Also be sure and check musueum hours online to be sure that you are there when they are open.
