Great hotel in Paris for Eurostar travellers

This little hotel

http://www.hotelparisliege.com

is in a great location for anyone travelling on the Eurostar train as it's literally over the road from Gare Du Nord station.

It's a 2 star hotel so don't expect luxury - it's fine for a couple of nights to get your head down. Our room (104) was clean, sheets were clean and fresh as were the pillows and towels. The toilet was massive (no bath, just shower) Hot water was HOT!

The room is on the front of the hotel but with double glazing the traffic wasn't loud. We stayed in November (+3 C) and the room was cosy and warm.

The staff are friendly and helpful (for instance we were running late for a restaurant booking and the receptionist phoned to confirm our table)

The nearest Metro/RER station is 30 seconds away: out of the hotel door, turn right and go to the end of the street, it's right in front of you on the right.

The metro station is Gare Du Nord, lines 4 and 5 and a few RER lines. It takes only 10 minutes to get into central Paris on the Metro.

We didn't pay for breakfast and really there's no need: about a minute walk away the main street Rue de Dunkerque (on which Gare Du Nord is) is full of cafes and bistros.

Train from Paris to Maastricht

by qzaman

HI

We will be arriving at Paris CDG from USA on August 30 at 9.30AM ( if no delays)

We then have to travel to Maastricht where I am attending a meeting

Based on VT member tips, I was researching train sites and found different fares.

First of all there is no direct Paris to Maastricht fare (except on raileurope site which seems like a robbery.....$280 for 2 persons).

I understand I have to change trains at Liege for Maastricht.

I cant find a time table or fare for Liege to Maastricht.

I see two options:
1. To go from Paris to Liege and then to Maastricht - But I see different fares for trains departing at diferent times starting from Euro 25 and going up to Euro 65....thats just for Paris to liege,....and it takes 2 to 3 hours

2. To go from Paris to Brussels the fare is on average Euro 25 and it takes 1 and 1/2 hour. I then have to get back to Liege to go to Maastricht.

Any tips about what is recommended?

Thank you all very much.

QZ

P.S. My flight arrives at Paris CDG at 9.15AM ( if there are no delays)

Have you looked at

http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

for the basic timetables? It carries the vast majority of European train information, though only fares for/from Germany.

There are plenty of trains from Paris>Maastricht, usually with a change at Brussels-Midi.

Look at the French railway site on http://www.voyages-sncf.com/ for times and fares.

You are right to be dubious about Raileurope. Not only does it charge commission (it is only a ticketing agency) but it does not always show all available trains and routes.

You will, by the way, see different fares quoted for different trains. That is quite normal in Europe (not in the UK though). The fastest, super-duper trains have the highest fares, the slower regional ones are cheaper.

Take TALYS from Gare Du Nord on the right bank of Sien to Liege. TALYS goes Paris-Cologne, stops at Lile, Brussels,Liege, Aachen & Cologne.
At Liege Guilliemins you chage for train to Maastricht.
Ticket to Maastricht is €6.20
Info on trains in Maastricht can can be found on www.vvvmaastricht.nl
or try www.9292.nl and choose trains.
if you chek on www.bahn.de you might find good buys on TALYS or www.talys.eu usualy you have discount if you book atleast 3 weeks beforehand.
BTW Paris-Liege about 2 & half hours.

Since you are landing at CDG it would probably make sence to try to get one of the direct CDG - Brussels TGVs.
There is a TGV that leaves CDG for Brussels at 10:10, so you could probably make that one. The railway station at CDG will probably be able to sell you a ticket all the way to Maastricht.
