Convinient city center Location/Ile de la Cite
by tremendopunto about Hotel Rivoli
HOTEL RIVOLI is on 44 Rue de Rivoli, corner 2 Rue des Mauvais Garcons - with a view on Hotel de Ville and Tour Saint Jaques. And that is the biggest advantage of this place to stay: right in the heart of old Paris, just 100 hundred meters from the Seine and Ile de la Cite with Notre Dame and so on. Additionally the Metro station Hotel de Ville makes it a convinient getting around connection to everywhere else.
The rooms themselves are not that special and maybe a little bit run down - but in this location for this price it is a great bargain. A double with bathroom was 55 EUR. And again, you cant get much closer with your bed to the highlights of Paris - maybe Hotel Henry IV right ON Ile de la Cite - 25 Place Dauphine, 01 43544453 - would be another great place to stay, but they were already booked out when I prepared the Paris trip.
Great Location and Dirt Cheap... but that's all

If you're a budget backpacker looking for a bare bones place that's safe, convient, cheap and clean - well, 3 out of 4 ain't bad - the hotel is pretty run down. The people who work at the hotel try their best to keep the room & amenities neat but the hotel is in dire need of renovations. I'd also have to warn you about the mold growing on some of the walls due to water damage (ick!!!). I can't complain too much though since I really wasn't expecting too much for 45 euros for a double room (they gave us a triple) with shower and sink. Toilet is down the hall.
Strangely enough, it seems despite the run down condition of the hotel, dirt cheap hotels must be in pretty high demand because I had to mail a deposit for 1 night to reserve the room. They don't accept credit cards and they don't have a fax machine or email.
This hotel is not to be confused with "Rivoli Hotel" which is a nicer hotel down the street. Very convenient location - across the street from Hotel de Ville and the metro. A few minutes walk from the Seine river.

Hostel close to CDG Airport
by Steve_NZ
Hi!
We're coming to Paris in a weeks time, wanting to find a quiet hostel for 1 night (HI preferably) and easy to get to Charles-De-Gaul airport....
When we arrive in Paris from Algere at the train station, is it best to get a bus or a train to the hostel?
Could you recommend a good Hostel, and what is the best way to get to the airport from the hostel early in the morning?
Thanks!!!

You have a couple of "cheap" hotels by french standars near CDG. But, if your getting in Paris from the train station if it is gard du nord or gard de l'est you will find cheap barely noticable and not very clean hotels around there. Just ask around!

The most used transports are :
- the shuttle to Opera, Porte Maillot, Invalides, gare Montparnasse
- the RER (express metro) line B to Gare du Nord or Chatelet.
I suggest :
1- take the RER and stop at Chatelet . Choose the exit "place du Chatelet"
2- Cross the Pont au Change and go right quai de l'Horloge (80 m). Turn left and stop after few steps place Dauphine
3- Go to the Hotel Henri IV 25 place Dauphine (phone numeber on my Paris Page). The price is (or was in June) : 23 euros with a share bath and you will be in the center of Paris : 5 mn walk from Notre dame, Sainte Chapelle, Quartier Latin, st Germain des Pres and close to the River Seine.
If it is closed see the Hotel Rivoli 44 rue de Rivoli at the corner of Rue des Mauvais Garcons. It is a bit more expensive but still a budget hotel and 8 mn walk from place du Chatelet.
January is the low season for tourism : you will find easily a room.
Have a good stay
