Hi,
On top of Pieter's advice concerning Velib, VT'er Nemorino has lots of tips and hints for cycling in Paris. Just type his name on the top of the page and then click on Paris. Well worth looking.

It is really nice around the Luxembourg Gardens - you will enjoy your time in the area and with a bike everything is very close. I should get on the bike more often myself :)

Travel Tips for Paris

General Paris info

by aemilys

I like lots of things about Paris and you will too if you prepare properly before arriving to make the most of your time here. You'll need info so here are some links to useful sites:

The official website of the tourist office in English: Paris Info

The RATP Paris metro site in English: Metro RATP

You will have a fine time in Paris even if you never make it to the courtyards surrounding the PALAIS ROYAL near the Louvre, but if you do find yourself strolling across the gravel here, find these cool, silvery spheres which are actually a fountain of sorts. Take a picture of yourself, reflected in them, and think you are such an artist. Then you may leave. ;-)))

At Pont au Change ('Money Changers' Bridge') you can enjoy an evening view of the Seine, looking north from the Ile de la Cité. This bridge was established in the 9th century, although the present bridge dates to 1860. The tower to the far left is the Tour St-Jacques, where in 1648 the physicist-philosopher Blaise Pascal carried out some of the first experiments concerning the weight of air.

Grande Mosquée de Paris

by Imbi

The Great Mosk was built on a site which had been given by the city in 1922 in remembrance of the muslim soldiers who died during the First World War. With an exotic Hispano-Moresque style, the Mosk is dominated by a 33 metre-high minaret and has a central green patio with North-African decorations. The building includes a hammam, a restaurant and a café where you can enjoy, while sitting in the shade of the tree, traditional pastries and mint tea.

Bring your laptop!

by wildstrawberries

I'm glad I brought along my laptop; it didn't weigh too much, but I could download all my photos daily and look through them on the same day!

It helps a lot creating good pictures for the next days, adjusting light, flash, camera settings etc.

I could also read through some websites that I've downloaded earlier (the hotel room has no internet access) to check for example, Disneyland's Parade timings.

On top of this, I could play my daughter's fav movies (bring a few) cos she has no interest in CNN. This routine turns out to be very comforting to her.
