If you like history, you need...
by Lieludalis
If you like history, you need to go to the Crypt Archilogy directly in front of NotreDame! Cool layout and it's all underneath the existing court!! You need to see this if you are at all interested in the history of Paris!! It was amazing! We happened to be in Paris the night that France won the European Football (soccer) championship!! They won with only 48 seconds in the game! The Champs Elysee was a sea of football fans after the game! We watched that part on T.V. from our room (I'm a bit crowd-phobic).
We just happened to eat dinner at a local 'sports' bar/brasserie (there were a lot of T.V.s around).
Everyone had Red,White, and Blue shirts and were singing the national anthem and the 'fight' songs...one of which oddly enough was 'I will Survive' by Gloria Gaynor. Since we are American, it was a really great experience to see such national unity under a single sport!
By the way, even though the atmosphere was great, the food turned out to be the worst meal we had while in Paris!!
Visit the Notre Dame.

Notre Dame is translated to mean Our Lady. The beautiful church is made famous by the story 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' by Victor Hugo, and the animation. Somewhat different from the animation, you will still see the gargoyle, and the beautiful stained glass rose windows.
Fontaine de la Victoire

It is surely not the nicest monument of Paris but it is in the middle of the Place du Chatelet which is the center of Paris. I mean the crossroad of the main metro and RER lines.
It is devoted to the Napoleon's victories (like Arc de Triomphe which is more famous) which are written on the column.
The pedestal was added by the nephew Napoleon III who chose to put a sphinx (a la mode on this time).
The 4 women at the basis of the column are : the Faith, Viligence, Law and Force.
Tell me if you have guessed... It is located at the best place of Paris (the more central) and nobody really sees it.
Leave those stereotypes at home.

I have to admit that I was a bit dubious about choosing France as a holiday location, and the capital inparticular, with the history between my country and France. All the stories of rude Parisians and unhelpful shop assistants also got me worried.
However, the good news is that all those stories seem to be untrue! I never met any problems like these. Everywhere I went the Parisians were friendly and helpful. Even where communication was difficult, people did their best to point me in the right direction.
It may help a little to try a bit of French, even if it is just Bonjour and the use of S'il vous plait. So, don't take that nasty old stereo-type to heart too much. In five days I never encountered anything but pleasant friendliness!
Paris gets my vote for a friendly city!
The Rodin Sculpture Garden
by Bobsy
This is the most beautiful place we went to in Paris. Amazing sculptures by Rodin are nestled in lush gardens and surrounded by roses and scented flowers, with views of the Eiffel Tower and Napoleon's tomb. The garden contains many of Rodin's great works, including the Thinker. When we went entrance to the gardens was only one euro! I'm not sure what the museum is like as we paid for the garden only.
