Helpfulness
Chic and central
Very french-style chic hotel, between the Marais quarter and Place des Vosges/Bastille, few yards from "Village Saint Paul" and from the "Saint Paul" metro stop on line 1 (Yellow) Quiet, with room rather spacious for Paris standard and very well equipped (A/C, safelock, hairdryer, water boiler and tea/coffee necessaire, etc.). It also has a small garden where you can have breakfast in good season, but breakfast is not included in the price and it's rather expensive (ca. 15 Euro per person). And this is the only negative remark
Unique Quality: Central location, quietness

Hotel in Le Marais
The Hotel St. Paul Le Marais is a nice small hotel near Place de Vosges.
We had the deluxe room (210 euro) which was quite nice and roomy as European hotels go. The bathroom was newly remodeled and had a large jetted tub.
We stumbled upon this cozy little spot quite by accident. It's just a couple of doors down from the Hotel St. Paul le Marais. There is no sign and the only way one would know there was a restaurant there was to walk by after dark and see the tables.
We wandered in one night around 9:30 and didn't have any idea what kind of place it was (because there was no name or sign).
The place is tiny - probably not more than 6 or 8 tables but the food was fabulous!
Reservations are recommended (they seated us anyway...) I had the spaghetti with shellfish (I'm not certain what they were) and it was to die for.
Leighanne had the veal and it was excellent.

I have a guide book that can't say enough good things about this place, but TripAdvisor pans it. Not a single positive review. What gives? Anyone here familiar with it?

Guidebook reviews are strange. You won't know which reviews are accurate or not. I find many of the well-known guidebooks don't even update their reviews although they claim they do. From year to year the comments remain the same. This means that the authors don't revisit the hotels. Maybe that's the reason why there's a disparity between your guidebook and tripadvisor.com comments.
Btw, do you have to stay at the Saint Paul? Redicap's hotel suggestions seem like excellent values.

Sorry, but I will another time give contradictory opinions..;I stayed at Hotel Saint Paul and never had these kinds of opinion. I found it really lovely and not so expensive...It is a 3 star hotel and at the heart of the Latin Quarter...Price is reasonnable...(even if you always prefer to pay less:))))
I found the decoration nice and the staff too. The hotel was very clean and I had no problem with noise...I found that very quiet...!!

Apparently there is a Hotel Saint-Paul in the Latin Quarter, which is not the same hotel as the Hotel Saint-Paul Le Marais...
