you will love it there
i stayed near montorgueil pedestrian neighbourhood two years ago
if i ever get back to Paris, i'd stay in that area again
very central, walking to many things, not wasting time on public transport
it's not overun with tourists so you feel like you're living the real lifestyle, not the tourist version

The area is close by to Les Halles. In the evening until about 11 PM there were a lot of people milling around enjoying the evening. I went into an internet cafe and 30 minutes later it was quiet except for groups of youths. One of the few times in Paris I ever felt uncomfortable. There is a great seafood/oyster bar a few doors down from St. E. On r Rambuteau there are inexpensive eats and great waffles and crepes. Karl

This is my favourite area of Paris; I kid myself that it is my 'neighbourhood' when I'm there. Rue Montorgueil itself is so much fun, full of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. It's an easy walk to the river (you do need to be a little careful around the park/Les Halles area at night but so long as you keep your wits about you there should be no problem). I have a particular fondness for the Eglise St. Eustache as I sang there with my choir this summer, an emotional experience I will never forget.
