First time I went to Paris I was a sophomore in college with very little money. So I jumped on a bus with two classmates (you know you're poor when you travel by bus from Holland to France) and booked for a 'hotel in the center of Paris near the subway'.
Well, considering that we paid only around 80 Euro (back then it was still Dutch Guilders .. hehe) for the room to be shared it wasn't a bad deal.
Expect a very basic room - small & cramped, little 14 inch TV with only French channels, and a small shower. The building looks old, although not too old for us to still be able to sleep without problems for 3 nights.
Directions: Between Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est stations
