Hotel du Mont Blanc, Paris
We spent an excellent week in Paris in March 2012, staying at the hotel Mont Blanc. The location was great, 2 minutes from the metro station St.Michel in the middle of the Latin Quarter.
The room was small as well as the bathroom, and the breakfast was typically French, meaning not too much to eat for breakfast, but as there were plenty of restaurants and cafés outside, we did not complain.
As it is hard to find cheap hotels in such a good location, I think we got very good value for money, and I will not hesitate to book here again.
Unique Quality: The location: in the middle of the Latin Quarter. Direct train connection to the two main airports in Paris, Charles de Gaulle and Orly, and direct metro connection to Montmartre from St.Michel.
From the Latin Quarter you can easily walk to the Champs-Elysées, to the Opera, the Tuileries park, the Louvre, the Luxembourg park and as the river Seine was 5 minutes away, talking a cruise on the Seine was really easy.

Good price and great location (5th, Paris, France)
This simple and clean 2 star hotel has a great location. The rooms have no pretention, quite bare, but very clean. The bathroom looked like it had been recently redone. The only downside of this hotel is that non of its rooms are non-smoking, so there might be a remnant of the smell (which was really not bad in our room). Ask for a room on the backside as rue de la Huchette is a busy and noisy pedestrian street with restaurants catering for the tourists.
Unique Quality: Excellent location in the latin district, next to the river Seine, close to Notre-Dame, and right next to a metro (RER, the suburb train) with a direct line to Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) airport in 1/2 an hour.

Quartier Latin
Situated in the heart of the Latin Quarter on the bustling rue de la Huchette, this little hotel was all we needed. Our room was VERY small, but clean. They do have slightly larger rooms available. The bathroom was fairly new and clean. There was a small desk and very little room to walk around the bed. Our room was on the street side and, at night, got pretty loud. There is a nightclub right across the street. The window blocked most of it, but you could still hear it all. It didn't seem to disturb us too much. Ask for a room in the back. One minute walk to the Seine, right around the corner from Notre Dame...5th arrondisement.
Unique Quality: The only English speaking channel on TV was CNN Europe (which is usually a problem when you are with a child), but we were out from sun-up to well after sun-down....so it didn't matter. Continental breakfast is served in the cellar for 6 EURO per person. There is an elevator. It is on a pedestrian street full of restaurants, bars, and shops. Right around the corner from the metro!

Prime location for affordable people watching.
We chose this hotel after finding it on the internet and verifying its whereabouts in relation to the Metro. Proximity to a Metro station is always a priority, though my wife will say one's own bathroom is first on the list. This hotel has both as well as friendly English speaking staff, tv in the room and cheap breakfast in the cave downstairs. It also has an elevator. We saw it work occasionally.
Unique Quality: This hotel finds itself in a pedestrian district a two-minute walk from Metro St-Michel. You can get there directly from the Charles de Gaulle airport on the RER. The area is bustling with activity late in the evening so you feel safe regardless of what time you return. At the same time, it's quaint and quiet once you close your window.
