    Cheap and small

    by

Hotel Jardins de Paris Boulogne is a hotel with a 1930s ambiance and is located near the Parc des Princes and a shopping area. It takes about 20 minutes to the Eiffel Tower from the hotel's Metro stop, which is Marcel Sembat.

When I arrived, I had a completely hassle-free check in with my voucher and was given my room. My conclusion is quite simple: if you want small room with dirty walls but comfortable bed and clean sheets in outskirts of Paris, than this is it! But … what to expect for a price of €61.- for one night inclusive of breakfast? However, the bathroom was clean, sans the mildew between the tiles in the shower. It was a bit on the small side, particularly with the sink right in front of your face while you're on the toilet, but it was servicable. The shower area was heard to fit in (very small), mild smell of damp but again clean.

Breakfast was a typical continental breakfast - pastries, cereal, yoghurt, et cetera - nothing special and if late, not much available. The two coffee machines were definately not clean! Tried to explain this to the receptionists, which was rather difficult because she spoke some English, but not too much.

All in all, this was a decent inexpensive hotel that's a bit off the beaten path. If the opportunity came up at this price, I would stay there again. But I would not go there again for my romantic weekend, that’s for sure…

Unique Quality: If you want small room with dirty walls but comfortable bed and clean sheets in outskirts of Paris, than this is it!

Directions: At the heart of the Boulogne Business district.

2 star hotel @ Marcel Sembat.

    by

It is a two star hotel at the border of zone 2 of Paris. The nearest metro is Marcel Sembat which is about 2 minutes walk from the hotel.

The hotel looks clean and comfy. There is no air-condition at the reception and in the rooms. It is quite uncomfortable during the day time in a hot summer day. The manager told me that 90% of the hotels in Paris are without air condition. I looked around and there's no air condition in 3 stars hotels too. There's a lift in the hotel, but it is very small just enough for two people with a luggage.

The room is clean with a shower and toilet. The "bath tub" is very small, just like a tub for shower (inverted commas cos it is not a bath).

Unique Quality: The buffet breakfast cost Euro9.

The hotel is good for budget stay, provided they are having discounted rates. Location wise, it is easy to get to Trocadera for the Eiffel. Getting to Charles de Gaulle takes a bit more efforts and not very convenient.

Lastly, I have paid Euro43 for the room including breakfast for two, which I think is a good bargain. I booked it from the website I have recommended.

Directions: Metro (subway) station MARCEL SEMBAT on line 9
Bus station MARCEL SEMBAT on lines 123, 175 and 126
RER (suburban train) station ISSY LES MOULINEAUX on line C

Well, Italy it's not only architecture, sculptures, paintings and Ferraris...There is also the languages, the smells, the people and the cuisine! Oops, I have certainly forgotten something... The warm ambience of Italy, the spanish cordiality, the sens of 'grandeur' of the french, the belgian diversity, the english traditions...

On the interior - each room is decorated in one primary color. Here is the kitchen in shades of blue. By the way - they really don't want you taking photos inside the house. I found that out the hard way. Oops:)

W is for Welcome to 'National express' (UK)

by sourbugger

National Express coaches are one of the main budget options to travelling around the UK. Some fares area as low as one pound, whilst they often have promos offering no trip for more than about 10 pounds.

One of the downsides of coach travel has been the high probability that a 'complete nutter' will accompany for your entire journey.

National express have now solved thus one by allowing you to buy the next seat to you at a reduced price. The extra legroom will no doubt be a bonus, but you will feel a complete prat when the Swedish exchange student in the tartan miniskirt fails to ask if the seat next to you is taken, because you reserved it. oops.
