Mediocre, at best.

We chose this hotel because of its location, and cheap price. Since it was the most affordable in the area, I wasn't expecting much, but I wasn't impressed with this hotel at all.

Firstly, the air-conditioner in our room only emitted hot air and given that average temperatures during our 4-day stay were around the 25 degree celsius, it was absolutely horrendous!

Secondly, the smell of smoke kept permeating our room, even after we closed the windows, and switched off the fan.

Thirdly, when we booked the hotel, we were promised free wireless internet access in our hotel room. This is one of the reasons we decided to select this hotel, and hence lugged our heavy laptop with us on our trip. Upon arriving, we were told that this was not the case, and if we wanted to use the internet we would have to stay down in the lobby.

On top of all this, the rooms were much smaller than any I had ever stayed in, and the shower was so small that I could barely shampoo my hair without hitting the water faucet, turning the water scalding hot.

Our stay was not altogether unpleasant, and we had a meal in the adjoining restaurant which was quite good. The location was not near any big tourist attractions, but metro stations were within walking distance, giving easy access.

I would not recommend this hotel, unless you were after cheap accommodation within the city centre, are simply looking for a bed to sleep in, and do not mind roughing it out. The room itself was quite comfortable, although small. However other contributing factors made it an uncomfortable stay for us.

The metro system in Paris is fantastic, however, and it may be a smarter to choice to choose a hotel further out for the same price, with better facilities, and simply train it in each day.

Good lodging at a nice price

Small hotel but very clean and an awesome buffet breakfast included for a really good price. Very easy to navigate on subway from this location.

Which hotel should we choose- Kyriad Paris La Fayette or Tim Opera St.Lazare

by ginaled

We are a family of four going to Paris. Our 2 children, ages 16 and 20 will be travelling with us.
We are looking for centrally located but cheap, practical hotels.
Can somebody help us choose which hotel we'll get Kyriad Paris La Fayette or the Tim Hotel-St.Lazare, prices of these two hotels are in the same bracket- i need to know which one is close to department stores and or grocery stores?

Hate to give out my secret, but I'd suggest the Etape Porte D'Orleans. While its not near the center of town, the Metro terminus and bus lines are less than 2 blks away. The rooms are basic, no atmosphere, but the cost for 2 is 55E. Can't help on dept. stores, but there's 2 supermarkets a couple blks N or S of the hotel(the other half of the building is a Novotel @about 100+E). Its on the ring road edge of the 14th. This area haas really built up in the las few years.

Does the etape porte d'orleans have a web site? I've surfed the net and none so far.
