Hotel Good for Groups

Friends of mine came here (to Paris) with a rather large organized guided tour group and stayed in the Hotel Meridien in Montparnasse. It's not one of the charming Paris hotels, but more like something you would find in the U.S. It's huge at least 27 floors (where his room was). I am guessing it caters to groups.

I went into the hotel. It was nice enough as was their room, although the room was not very large.

About the location. While, from the map, it seems to be a little far out, I live not far from there and I can tell you that you can walk to many places or you can take the bus or metro. Montparnasse is one of the main changing places for metro lines and you can take a bus from there to just about anywhere in Paris. There are also tons of restaurants around there some really bad, but some quite good. If you decide to stay there I can give you ideas on restaurants, cafes, and bistros.

Well located & comfortable

Our room at LeMeridien was probably the largest room we stayed in during our entire trip in Europe.
The room was spacious, the beds were comfortable and the service was good. The hotel looks very modern and classy but to my surprise, the bathrooms were the most antiquated bathrooms we had seen in Europe. The entire bathroom had bright orange walls and counters.
We liked the location; it was very safe and had many shops and restaurants near by. We were able to walk from the hotel to the Musee Du Louvre.

A 4 star hotel?I don't think so!!!!

I stayed in a deluxe room(i am wondering how bad the classic rooms are) and I was very disapointed. The room was shabby ,old and the 2 double beds were very small The wrost thing was the bathroom : very old and filthy (it was about 10+ years old) with no variety of care products and with a very uncomfortable tub. The reception was ok but the concierge was unfriendly. The only good thing was the hot breakfast(the cold was not very good for a 4 star hotel. Not a 4star hotel, maybe a 2.5star but not 4 .I would not stay there again. (If i paid 70 euros i would be happy)

Big and Dirty

I've stayed there several times because of my work. If you want to meet airliners and flight crews from all of the world come here!
I don't know if it is because I've been saturated because of all the times I had to overnight here but I'm quite fed up with this place.

Unique Quality: Colourfull bathrooms, there are some orange ones that reminds me the McDonalds.
Cold Business room with no personality.
Bad reception, specially for airliners.
The best the desserts of the restaurant.

Good Business Hotel near the Montparnasse Station

If you want a business class hotel with sleek modern rooms and room service, if you're not interested in old French character and charm, if you don't crave the neighborhoods of the left bank, and if you want to be close to the train station....well then this is your hotel.

The hotel is HUGE. The website says 953 rooms, and I believe them. Checking in on a Saturday morning took a long time. To be fair, we were very early (8:30).

If you want to save some money, check on Le Meridien's website for "last minute" deals. For example, this coming weekend, July 9-10, you can get a rate of only 120 euros -- a pretty good deal for Paris in high season.

https://www.lemeridien.com/moments/offers/weeklyspecials.shtml

My room had a nice work desk, a low table with two comfortable chairs, high speed internet, and all the amenties you'd expect in a the rather large (by European standards) bathroom.

It is NOT close to most of the traditional tourist spots, but they can be reached by taxi or metro, or on foot if you don't mind a hike. One big plus -- it's very quiet. Another, there's a huge department/grocery store very near by.

All in all, a good four star hotel, just nothing to write home about.

Unique Quality: Great views from some rooms on the top floors.

Best on the Left: L'Hotel Meridien!

The Meridien Hotel is a four star hotel and has much to offer the business traveler or tourist. I like to feel pampered when I travel, and I certainly was at the Meridien! They have 2 restaurants, superb room service, elegant decor, superb customer serive, and a very nice atmosphere. In addition, they are in a most convenient location, right across the street from the Metro and train station. In addition, I traveled via Air France, and there was a shuttle provided from the Charles de Gaulle Airport right to the hotel and back. Fantastique!

Unique Quality: I loved the opulence of the suites, having all the comforts of home, and more! The suites feature a private bathroom, TV, and a magnificent view of the city. Very comfortable and beautiful ambiance...one of my favorite treats was one evening that we came back too tired to go out....room service was one of the best I've ever had, and I enjoyed a succulent dinner in bed, a delicious steak with mountains of french fries, salmon and sour cream, and lots of Merlot...of course!

More about Le Meridien Montparnasse

meridien montparnasse, shopping, dining and attractions in the area

by TripAdvisor Member midas

We stayed at the Meridien Montparnasse from the 22 to 27th November, 2004.
Yes it is expensive, but which part of Paris isn’t?
We got rooms on the 16th floor, rooms were pretty nice, small by US standards, but neat and clean and with a really nice bathtub (which is very crucial to restore yourself at the end of the day, when you have walked more than you can imagine, and have plans for the night!).
Room service was prompt and they provide real nice soaps and toiletries. Ask room service if you need an electric kettle or something of the kind. They will place a reserve for the amount on your account. But make sure to return the item before the day you check out, or else it will delay your check out, since they insist on checking whether the item is actually in your room, before they let you go!
About the food, the lunch buffet is lavish and delicious and great value for money. It is actually much better than any food you could have for the same money, at a fancy French restaurant.
A note about the air-conditioning though, I guess because it was winter they only had the heat on. And no amount of turning the knobs helped, once we turned on the ac, it got really hot!! So we just kept the ac turned off at nights and it was pretty comfortable.
Keep in mind that this hotel is really busy, so if you plan to check in early and get a headstart on your sightseeing, check with them first. We were pretty disappointed the first day because we had to wait till 12 to check in and spent our first two hours in Paris in the hotel lobby. So be prepared and don’t get your hopes up!
The hotel location worked out fine for us because you could walk to the Invalides, Eiffel tower, St. Sulcpice. The rail station is a short walk away and the area is pretty busy at night too. The supermarket Inno is just a short walk away. Watch out for the open air market on the lot next to Inno’s on Saturday. Also the asian restaurant right across the road on av du maine is pretty good for quick dining. A wide variety of restaurants is available along the lanes near the hotel. We ate at the valle du Kashmir , it served great Indian fare at pretty affordable prices.
There are wonderful little places to be discovered in the area. Shop at the galleries Lafayette or walk along the rue de rennes for more shops. Walk up to the rue de severes to visit the grande epicerie. There are some great small shops on the general leclerc road, then head up on blv raspail, there is a beautiful flower shop on the intersection of these roads. Walk down the av du main, and walk up rue d’ alesia to browse the shops there.
Hope this information helps!

Great for Our Needs

by A TripAdvisor Member

A friend and I went to Paris in early December, 2004, for five days of sightseeing and shopping. We had never travelled together before, so a small boutique hotel with a small room would not have met our needs.

The room was large, non-smoking with two twin beds. The bathroom had plenty of room for two people to maneover with all their stuff. There was plenty of hot water, and the shower pressure was great.

The staff could not have been nicer. We used the concierge several times simply for directions and help with the Metro. Checkout was a breeze. The part I liked about the staff was that they spoke French or English, whichever you preferred. They didn't automatically switch to English just because they perceived that you were English or American. We wanted to practice our French. There are also two very nice gift shops in the hotel.

Also, the Meridien Montparnasse appealed because it was right across the street from the Gare de Montparnasse where the Air France bus from Charles De Gaulle drops you off. We took the bus to and from the airport for 12 euros one way. We had breakfast every morning in the train station which was much cheaper than eating breakfast in the hotel. However, the best part was that we were able to get into our room upon arrival. No wondering around Paris in a daze while waiting for your hotel room to be ready. There is also a RER and Metro station (14) in the Gare, and an additional Metro station (13), Gaite, around the corner from the hotel.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for someone who wasn't thrilled with the 'boutique' Paris experience and wants a nice, comfortable, well-run hotel with good sized rooms in a fabulous location for getting around town and to and from the airport.

Nice hotel but location so so

by TripAdvisor Member LMC_Canada

Booked with Priceline @$90US. We had stayed at this hotel before, a large highrise style hotel. Location is only fair. It is a long walk to/from the main subway line (around 15-20 minutes) so be prepared. Also walking back to hotel at night is a little scary. You need to either walk through the railway station (that's OK) or around it (you need to take care). Although the price was right i would rather stay in a more central location closer to the subway. We were upgraded to a better room with a king sized bed. Quite hotel. Not a charming hotel but a businessperson style hotel. A lot of airline staff stay at the hotel. The airport bus (Airfrance) stops in front of the hotel.

Comfortable but uninspired

Decent enough location in Montparnasse (handy for rail, metro and airport bus), but a fair way from tourist sights. This huge tower-block of a hotel is comfortable enough – fairly modern rooms, nice enough but there are much better options in Paris than this.

If you go to the hotel site you will find a map:

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/lemeridien/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1920

or you could put the hotel name into google maps.

Then you can see exactly how far the hotel is from all Paris sites.

Hotel is about 2.5 km from the Eiffel Tower and about 42km from CDG.
