Please book online before you leave for the hostel
When I tried to book a hostel in Paris, it was already too late and after many calls to different hostels, I finally managed to book this one. Since I was booking a hostel bed less than 48 hours before my arrival there, all the online booking was closed and phone call was the only option i was left with. So a person at the reception of this hostel booked a place for me, but then on arrival there, I found there was no booking in my name and not only that, they said they even don't accept phone bookings. Since it was already too late at night, they did not disappoint me and I finally got a bed but I must say, I must have been lucky, otherwise it seemed impossible. So guys don't take a chance. Online booking is important. One needs to carry the online booking confirmation number also.

Cheap and OK
The rooms were clean, so were the sheets. The breakfast also i found good, bread, jam and butter, fruit juice, biscuits, tea/coffee etc. But no fruits. Further there is a huge queue for breakfast in the morning which is a bit disappointing. One has to wait for atleast 30 minutes before you can get in the dining room. But so said, all things seem very clean and the staff are cooperative. Internet facility availiable @ Euro 1 per 30 minutes. I would recommend this hostel. However, I had one bad experience and I should warn future travellers. May be I was unlucky to have come across such an event. Please read my warnings and dangers tip before you book a bed in this hostel.

Clichy Youth Hostel
Stayed at a Youth Hostel which was in a pretty ok location being very near the Mairie de Clichy Metro station - which runs on line 13 - or in French - "ligne 13) - but it was no time at all to get from here to the Champ_Elysee for instance - it is the same line - no change - simple as that. The French for Youth Hostel is Auberge de Jeunesse - and the full title on my receipt here - it says Auberge de Jeunesse Leo-Lagrange - but i remember when i booked it - it was just known as Clichy Youth Hostel because that is just where it is situated.
There was a kitchen i remember - which you dont always get in city hostels these days - so one day i managed to cook myself some pasta.
The first night however i went accross the road to the Restaurant and for English people it is very good price where i got a huge Pizza which was nice - washed down with half litre - or demi-litre i think they call it - of Rose Wine - which also was very nice and good price.
There is a store about 7 mins away just before the Metro station.
Unique Quality: Location good near to Metro station
Didn't remember breakfast but then maybe i was late waking in the morning
Met some "real" characters in the Hostel including one guy of about 70 who was drunk all the time - he wasn't amused when i took up the space on the floor when i was looking at my maps - but then the rooms were small - but was not a problem fo rme - because i was in and out of the hostel very quickly - only comming back to sleep.
It was not too warm - not too cold - and i slept very well the both days in July i was here in 2004 (maybe the Rose wine helped too)

Leo Lagrange Youth International Hostel
18.5 Euros per night for a four person bedroom
Unique Quality: Well the best quality of this hostel is that it's cheap and it's rare to have all of the rooms booked. Some nights I actually had a room to myself. The downside? There's a reason why this place isn't booked solid. First it's about 6km north of the city center in a fairly seedy district of Paris. Second, it's not in great repair. It's not dangerous by any means, but it could stand a couple of coats of paint. It does have laundry facilities, internet service, a bar, a kitchen area and an elevator. Free breakfast (Rolls, jam, cocoa/coffee, & OJ) is included in the price.
