Away from it all, but close to it all!
We would stay here again. The hotel room was very small, but that was the only drawback. At 70 Euros a night for 2 people, it was a bargain, but we went through www.bookings.com for the best rate. The shower didn't work very well, but we managed. The breakfast room was actually quite nice and so was the breakfast! It is very close to the M13 Metro line at Pernety Station and not too far from Gare Montparnasse and the M4 Metro line, which is a very popular line that can take you to Notre Dame and all the way north to Montmartre where you can see the Sacre Coeur!
Unique Quality: There are many wonderful cafes along Rue Raymond Losserand and Rue de Maine as well. There are several excellent bakeries as well. It is out of the main tourist district and it was therefore very quiet there.

Affordable and comfortable
For an expensive city I was glad to find a two star hotel that I could afford. I booked the hotel through the Bookings.com web site. The advertised rate was 70 euros a night on the site. The actual rate at the hotel was a little more expensive at 95 euros a night. So I was glad I booked through the Bookings.com web site and saved the money. The rooms were small as are most rooms in similar hotels in Paris. It was very clean and in a quiet neighborhood. The staff was very helpful and polite. Most spoke English and were willing to put up with our poor attempts to speak French. Breakfast was included with the room and was a good value. I stayed here in May 2008.
The Montparnasse area is not quite city center, but close enough for a brief Metro ride. Its also possible to walk to many of the tourist areas. Its a quiet and very safe neighborhood. There are plenty of nearby restaurants.
