Best Places To Stay...

I would recomend anything close to the train station. My personal opinion of hotels is...Why pay extra money for a nice hotel, when you spend little time in the room. If you travel to Paris via train find the nearest hotel and stay there. The metro in Paris is easy and can get you anywhere. Unless this trip is a honeymoon or a very special occasion where money is not going to be an issue, you should stay in a descent hotel near one of the main train stations. Usually any 3 star can be found for around 50-90 EURO.

www.ahparis.com: Paris's alternative accommodation

We rented an apartment from a website for 4night 5days. It was great. the owner of the apartment was the first Parisian we met and he was so nice. It was a cute little place in the 11e but anywhere in Paris is close because of the metro. There was a supermarche right around the corner and we spent hours in there gawking at all the cheese and yogurt! We had a quaint little coffee shop down the road and even spent new years at a small bar a block away. The whole adventure was painless .

Moulin de paris: 2 star

This hotel had all the basics for your stay it was clean had tv in room. It had ensuite facilities it didnt have a bath although it had shower. It had very good amenities for only a two star. We stayed bed and breakfast which was a continental buffet. You can buy meals at lunch and at dinner times these were reasonably priced.

Unique Quality: It had an outdoor pool although it was closed when i was there to cold It also had small gym and suana. It also had a shuttle bus to disney costing 1 euro 50 per person although children get for free. Around 5 min drive from disney and hotel has a carpark for guests with own car.

absolu living: Appartments in Gay Marais

Spent 2 nights (2 people) in this one bed appartment in Marais area. Total cost €258.

Apartment was fairly small but very central and had lots of good design/style elements.

Facilities included small kitchen with washing machine plus TV/Video/Hifi.

Only real criticism was limited heating facilities which led to the apartment being cold for the first few hours of our stay.

Unique Quality: Great location at a price that beats your average 2* Paris hotel

Agency staff were helpful & friendly.

Paris: Furnished Short Term Rentals in Paris

With the steady rise of the Euro against the US dollar,
Paris can be an expensive city to visit.
Cutting corners on costs can be a difficult thing to do
unless you are familiar with the city and some simple tucked away secrets.
It is quite easy to fall victim in paying steep prices for small, hotel rooms
that are not always conveniently located and deceiving,
or spending fortunes on ridiculously over priced meals.

While recently spending time in Paris,
I decided to visit some of the short rentals advertised directly by their owners on www.fusac.fr and found it to be quite satisfying in results.

Contrary to the classical real estate web-sites
or advertisements that offer short term rentals,
I found some great deals on fully furnished studios and apartments in the FUSAC.

I visited a couple of studios that I found for 230 Euros a week
conveniently located around St. Paul in the very popular Marais,
or the very cute and well furnished studio for 330 Euros in the residential neighborhood Paris 14th , steps away from several forms of transportation and food market,
and my favorite was the 1 bedroom apartment that sleeps 4 with big windows looking right onto rue Montroguil, my favorite street in Paris for 400 Euros a week.

Most apartments are fully equipped with sheets and towels,
the kitchens are ready to cook in,
and some have a phone and/or internet at an additional cost.

Advertisers pay a supplement price to have their ads placed on the FUSAC web-site,
so you may not see all adds that are printed in the free bi-weekly magazine.
The magazine is offered at most Anglo-Saxon businesses in Paris
and can also be found in some areas of New York.
FUSAC, short for France-USA contacts was created almost 15 years ago,
and has become a prime source of information for English speaking ex-pats in France
who seek employment, second hand items, apartments, conversation exchanges, and other services.

A Home Away from Home vs. Hotels: Short term rentals all over France

Travel Tips #4
A Home away from Home vs. Hotels

Upon my arrival to Nice
here in the South of France
I started my research
for that perfect place to stay.

A place where this homeless body
could gather some Zen.
A place that I could feel at home.

WELL,
let me share with you a fantastic tip,
which not only serves for the Cote d'Azur,
but rather for the whole of France
with a few other places in the world.

If you are from the west,
you could consider this
a great kept secret
among the French.

In the local 'Guide Vacances'
or you can click on to http://www.leguidevacances.com
or even at http://www.seasonal-rentals.com for the English version
and before your eyes will appear an array of choices
from fully furnished studios, apartments, houses,
and even independent and private living quarters
within a multi-million Euro villa
at a fraction of the cost of what might have been
a surprisingly small, deceiving, and expensive hotel room.

Unique Quality: Thanks to my luck
on my second visit
I met Mr. Postel
Tel. (33) 4-9329-1686
a sweet, true gentleman
and the owner of my temporary home.
A studio furnished with washer, iron,
TV, dishwasher, phone
and everything in between to scotch tape.

There is a full kitchen where I cook,
a big bathroom for those long showers
(so very much missed on the boat),
a very firm mattress for an excellent night of sleep,
but best of all a large wrap around terrace on this 6th floor,
where I spend my mornings watering the plants,
or having lunch
while I collect my Zen.

Conveniently located in a luxurious building
just a couple of blocks away from the sea
and from the pedestrian center of town.

This studio for up to 3 people
can be had for at a fraction of the cost
of a 3 star hotel at 50 Euros a day or less,
depending on the season
and length of stay of course.

To know more about this,
just click on

or just enjoy some of the pictures
of this studio and others on the link provided.

Hotel Moderne and Hotel Picard

The Hotel Moderne in St Germaine de Pres (3 star) was what we expected. Small rooms, but very clean and 'ensuite'!!. It is in a great location, walking distance to the islands and Notre Dame as well as the metro and some great food! Rates are normally about $130 euros per night, but we had a great deal for $80.

The Hotel Picard (2 star hotel) in Place de la Republic was not what we expected, a bit older than we thought, but very clean. They were in the midst of renovations and painting. It was very quaint and well within our budget (cost us $63 euros a night). One piece of advise though, ask for a room on the back side. There was a bar right below our window and people were there till all hours of the night laughing and talking. Also, if you make reservations, FOLLOW UP. We got there and they could not find our reservations. While waiting, 2 other groups showed up and had the same problem.

Unique Quality: Both 'hotels' were unique in their own way. Both had facilities in the rooms (which was what we had looked for) and both were in great locations to the metro and dining.

Walls were fairly 'thin' at the Hotel Moderne and we could hear our neighbors. Not so at the Picard, but we could hear the bar downstairs half the night.

Sol Inn, Bussey St Georges

This was a nice new hotel, in a convenient location for both the City and Disneyland Paris, smack bang in the middle of them both and right across the road from the metro. Not as expensive as staying in the City Centre.

Time & Place Homes (Rue de la Harpe): Great Hotel Alternative in Central Paris

This apartment is wonderfully located in the heart of the 5th, about a block from Notre Dame and the Seine. It is also in the middle of restaurant row, which caters mostly to tourists with every possible menu you'd need for a quick bite. A metro/RER station (St. Michel) is just outside the front door, giving full access in all directions. Our 2-bdrm apt slept 6 (including a pullout double sofa in the living room), had 2 bathrooms, 2 toilet rooms, a full kitchen, washer/dryer, dining area, living area, and cable television (rarely used except for BBC World News). The teeny tiny elevator was ignored in favor of the exercise afforded by 5 flights of stairs. We loved this place! [My 15-year old daughter thought the best looking things to see in Paris were the young Greek male employees at the Greek restaurant at the entrance to the apartment building.]

Unique Quality: The central location is superb, and the access to the metro/RER unmatched. The corner bakery provided perfectly fresh croissants every morning, and Nutella crepes nightly.

Hotel Rivoli: Great Location and Dirt Cheap... but that's all

If you're a budget backpacker looking for a bare bones place that's safe, convient, cheap and clean - well, 3 out of 4 ain't bad - the hotel is pretty run down. The people who work at the hotel try their best to keep the room & amenities neat but the hotel is in dire need of renovations. I'd also have to warn you about the mold growing on some of the walls due to water damage (ick!!!). I can't complain too much though since I really wasn't expecting too much for 45 euros for a double room (they gave us a triple) with shower and sink. Toilet is down the hall.

Strangely enough, it seems despite the run down condition of the hotel, dirt cheap hotels must be in pretty high demand because I had to mail a deposit for 1 night to reserve the room. They don't accept credit cards and they don't have a fax machine or email.

This hotel is not to be confused with "Rivoli Hotel" which is a nicer hotel down the street.

Unique Quality: Very convenient location - across the street from Hotel de Ville and the metro. A few minutes walk from the Seine river.
