    great train station hotel

    by

This is my favorite chain all over mercure of Accor France. The one by the gare de lyon is perfect, been there on business trips and attended conférences there too. Always nice. recommended.

and for you great ratings in trip advisor and booking.and according to Paris tourist office very close to many nice things to do in Paris. Parenthesis are in minutes transport. Tour Eiffel (20), Bastille (5), Champs Elysées (20), Disneyland Paris (30) La Défense (20), Madeleine (10).Opéra Bastille is about 850 meters away.

The rooms have good sizes, clean, and friendlly service. you will be alright here.

Unique Quality: great rendez-vous bar, great location, nice amenities pro service. easy transports.

Directions: metro line 1 and 14 takes you here as well as many bus lines. you can connect to all of Paris. (Bus 63/65, RER A/D, are the main ones.

Re: Hotels in Paris

The first hotels of your list are in no interesting areas, sometimes far from the place of which they have the name (ie Arc d e Triomphe)

The first which is in an interesting area is the Rochester Champs Elysees. It is located rue la Boetie which is perpendicular to Champs Elysees

Near the bottom of the list, I suggest the Millenium which is really near Opera and the department stores (Galeries Lafayette and le Printemps). It is located close to the metro Richelieu-Drouot and the RER Auber which allow to reach quickly the main attractions of Paris.
Some VT members stayd in this 4 stars hotels and were please.

Travel Tips for Paris

Montmartre is the area of...

Montmartre is the area of paris that I really prefer...there is a very nice atmosphere...even if sometimes there are so many tourists!!!!
But it's friendly and it's really nice looking at painters in the streets that try to sell you one of their pictures...

Art Nouveau Architecture in Paris (2)

by hquittner

Not only is Paris conscious and protective of its ancient architectural heritage, but it is very strict about new buildings after the debacles of Montparnasse and the beneficial devastations of Baron Haussmann. There have been many vigorous eras of building in Paris and around 1900 was one of these periods (prizes were given annually). Art Nouveau was the style and many fine buildings are the result. There were other architects besides Guimard. As we wandered in the neighborhood near our hotel of the same name (See Tip) on the Av. La Bourdonnais, filled with expensive condominiums of that period, we entered the Av. Rapp and saw a fine building at #29. It was built in 1901 by Jules Lavirotte. We later found that he had won the 1901 prize for the facade and was considered the next best man to Guimard. There are others by him nearby (we learned later) within 100m: a high school "Da Vinci" at 12 r. Sedillon and up the alley near our first find (#3 Square Rapp); you can find them. On another day as we walked to the Invalides by Av. Tourville, at the last corner, we found someone elses work but do not have a name. Similarly still another on the rue de Rivoli just beyond the Hotel de Ville (which will appear in a Marais Tip) All sorts of older and modern architecture.

Magical world

by Lilasel

Along the Quai de Montebello, just opposite Notre Dame, are the Bookseller's Stalls. Here you can find all sorts of things: old prints and engravings, old issues of "Paris Match", maps, books, comic books, and "odds and ends".

The stalls themselves are essentially boxes bolted to the stone wall of the quai. For the connaisseur, many collector's gems can be found here.

Parisians in Place des Vosges

by BeatChick

The Place des Vosges in the Marais is a wonderful place to catch the Parisians in non-posing action. Amid the beautiful square are little parcs where the locals bring their bébés to play.

As I passed thru one day, I saw a young, chic maman trying to get her child to slide down a 2-foot 30º-angle slide and watched a little 3- or 4-year old expertly kicking around a soccer ball.

This is also a beautiful place to stroll when the hubbub of the Marais wears you down. Listen to the playful rush of the fountain as you admire the lovely apricot glow of the ancient buildings surrounding you.

Then stop off for un café at one of the sidewalk terrasse cafés (Ma Bourgogne or Nectarine) surrounding the square; a prime opportunity to people-watch and not nearly as touristy as the Champs-Elysées or St-Germain-des-Près.

Nearby is the Maison de Victor Hugo.

Listen to Ben Harper in Paris

by HeatherHQ

If you walk the Latin Quarter outskirts on Rue de Saint Germain you will come across a small red bar called the Alchemist up a small street a kitty corner from a English owned wine shop. The bar is owned by a young French couple and is a treasure chest of knick knacks, old photos and has a small fireplace reading area with an assortment of French and English books. The man knows a lot of English and the woman will open up to you after a few minutes. They have cheap St. Bernardus beer, great Muscadet and excellent desserts. They frequently play Ben Harper and will stop and sing a few notes themselves upon request by their fire. They also have a small dog who really likes to play but doesn't get along with other dogs too well.
