I stayed at this hotel twice in 2008. Both rooms were rather large for Paris standards. On my first stay the bathroom was 6 steps above the bedroom and it was HUGE with a double sink. This room had huge windows facing the courtyard. On my second stay I faced the street and the room was bigger than the one on my first stay but the bathroom was a normal size by American standards.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel as it is reasonably priced for what you get.
Unique Quality: The UP side:
The hotel is clean, has European charm, 2 elevators (that is much better than other hotels), has Wi-fi in most rooms and you can definitely get free wi-fi in the lobby. The location is perfect - 1 block from the Louvre, the Tuilleries and a short walk to the Opera and the Musee d'Orsay. The area is very safe.
The DOWN side:
The staff at the Registration desk and the Concierge seem to be aloof and not very helpful (very typical French attitude). Also, there is one step in the lobby leading to the elevators which I managed to miss while carrying my bags. Needless to say, I fell but did not get hurt, and I repeated to miss this step on subsequent ins and outs from the hotel.

Do not waste your money if you are an American of darker skin. I was put in a part of the hotel that must have been condemmed. The door looked like the police kicked it in.

I have heard that it is difficult to find a good hotel to a good price in Paris. Well, this hotel is neither.
The location is OK, I by hanging out of the window we had a somewhat nice view of a fairly lively street.
But we just did not feel too good in this hotel. We had expected a higher standard. It was not exactly dirty, but it was not exactly clean either.
The bathroom was old and a bit once-luxurious-now-cracking-up-feeling.
The actual bedroom was not too charming either.
Compared to the price we paid, this was bad value for money.

We stayed at this hotel in July 2002. The room was a triple room, top floor of the hotel, with French doors that opened to a narrow balcony. There was a 2 door entry, first door to a small foyer (where we stowed luggage) and the second into the room. The furnishings appeared to be painted antiques, with a double bed and a rollaway. There was plenty of storage space in the room for clothing.
While the location was terrific for sightseeing, the rooms were in desparate need of renovating. Examples include badly peeling paint on the French doors to the balcony, the bathroom door had been painted over so many times it would not close, the bedding was threadbare, the air conditioning didn't cool the room. The bathroom had been renovated, and was very large with a step in shower/tub combo, double sinks, toilet and bidet. As usual in Europe, you'll want to ask for extra towels and handclothes, but toiletries were plentiful.
Access to the Touleries and the Louvre were within a block. I booked a special rate through Expedia of $222 USD per night, which included a 50% discount on breakfast. I've checked rates recently and find them upward of $400 USD for the same room, and would not pay this for what I had then, whether the budget allowed it or not.
The hotel staff were pleasant, and the morning breakfast was varied, plentiful and satisfying.
Unique Quality: The Normandy is an old hotel, renovated throughout the years. The hotel has good "bones", but was in need of renovating when we stayed. Perhaps this has happened since then, but before booking I would enquire and also check recent reviews. It is very closely located to most of the major attractions in Paris, and the restaurant in the hotel is nice with good food and service.
The rooms shown in the website appear to be newly renovated, however, business will always show the best in advertisement. Best do some research and get personal opinions from those who have stayed there recently.

On our Louvre tip we said we wanted to brag that the picture was the view from our hotel. It almost was! Normandy Hotel is as central as you can get in Paris.
Unique Quality: This four star hotel is an old Parisian hotel, and in some places it shows. Get a good deal on your room (we got about 66% off rack rate through lastminute.com) and you will be happy. Service was good.

stayed at the hotel normandy over a long weekend in february - was very happy with the location and the hotel - very convenient for walking and taking the metro - the staff was also quite helpful as well as pleasant - though the rooms were old, they were clean - try to get a corner room, if possible (much larger.....)
February 2004The Normandy Hotel is misleading if you book using first impressions of its own web site. The reception areas, lobby, and bar (Drinks in Paris very expensive) are all upto the 4 star rating that the hotel is given.However the rooms (405) have seen better days. All of the furniture need replacing and the rooms required decorating etc. No peeling paper or mice.The location of the hotel is excellent, There is no need to be constantly on the metro, and there is an open top bus that operates close to the hotel enabling you to see all the sights of Paris. Vin & Mare is a excellent restaurant that I advise you to visit, but you must make a reservationMy advice is to book of the WEB (Expedia) and look for the discounted rates as the hotel is overpriced for what it offers you.

Having read the postings on Trip Advisor regarding the Normandy Hotel, I was a little bit anxious of staying there. I should have read the reviews before i booked it - so there's the first tip! I was VERY impressed with the location, i'd definately say it was in the best area in Paris - right next to The Louvre (amazing!). The entrance to the hotel quite glam, very Agatha Christie decor inside(if you know what i mean). Reception staff very pleasant, spoke english which helped. The only thing that I would say was posh was the restaurant situated in the hotel, the spiral stairs and the main entrance to the hotel. Our room (417), was nice and large. However (as previously noted in a posting..), the furniture was a bit ancient (dont know whether that's meant to be a part of old parisian style?). 2 single beds were pushed together (4* you say?), chunks of wood were missing from the cupboard, there was no iron (which when we enquired about at reception, they told us the maid would kindly iron the garments for us, at a cost!). Plus, the hairdryer didnt work (not good for a woman). It was particularly hot in the room aswell, but the balcony doors could be opened which helped. Beware of the maids, a couple of drinks were taken out of our mini bar by the maid! Aside from that, clean, basic, pleasant. Far from Luxury, but the location was spot on. As a previous post mentioned, it was probably a 4* 20 years ago, but certainly not now. Bit drab in terms of decor. (no mice, haha!)I have booked via Expedia as they are great for deals, but if you want luxury - do some research first!
Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights 13-17 Feb 04. The location was PERFECT. We walked one block to the Louvre and the Tuileries, 1.5 blocks to the metro. Bratisseries abounded arounded us. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The sleeping rooms were as you would expect with a European hotel - varying in size and design but always clean with large bathrooms. A little over-heated, but the windows opened and brought in fresh air. Paris and the Parisiennes were wonderful.
