    Almost American standard

    by

Every one has their personal tastes and requirements. Mine were clean, safe, private restroom, easy access to airport, easy access to town, staff able and willing to speak English and reasonably priced.

This hotel met all of requirements for this trip, which was only for a weekend. Much to my surprise the room was what I would call ‘American’ size, being much larger than many budget hotels in Europe. However it have some minor problems

Since it located across from the airport windows are sealed shut (for soundproofing), with this air conditioning is a must, however it had a very limited temperature range. I found the room at its coolest setting to bit too warm for comfort.

Desk personal were friendly and helpful, however restaurant staff was the opposite. Can’t say how the service was, since I couldn’t get any! The morning breakfast buffet was horrible! Bacon was noticeably under cooked (almost raw), eggs were cold, sausage was warm and over all presentation of food fair at best. Morning staff either couldn’t or wouldn’t speak English.

Also while the housekeeping staff appeared to do a good job, the hotel is showing wear. Carpet is worn and stained and the walls were dirty and scuffed.

The worst thing of all was their shuttle bus drivers, RUDE would be an improvement. Unlike other shuttle buses I have used with this chain, this one does not drop you off at the hotel front door but at the train station. The only way I knew I was near the hotel was because I saw the sign on the building as we drove by. When I asked if this was the stop for the Novotel, all I got was a dirty look and a grunt. The return trip to the airport was even worse. The first shuttle refused to speak to me, and the second wasn’t very helpful only giving one word answers.

For a short stay, or just a place to base out of, this hotel will meet your needs. If you want something more, like something as simple as a coffee/tea pot in the room, go elsewhere.

Unique Quality: Transportation is functional, free shuttle to and from airport and the hotel is attached to the train station.

The gentlemen working at the front desk were GREAT! Not only gave me a map to learn my way around Paris, but showed me how to get so some of antique markets. They had no way of knowing I had done my homework about train tickets, so they explained how the day passes would save me money. Then most of all they warned me about staying late to see the tower light up and returning to the hotel. For a woman traveling alone, after dark on a weekend night, that I needed to take a cab.

While if you look up this hotel in the chain’s website or books it will show that they offer internet access. IF you bring your laptop AND you ask for one of the rooms that is set up for wireless, AND you don’t mind paying 10 Euros for 2 hours of time that MUST be used with in 24 hours you can access the net from your room. If you don’t have a laptop, they do have an arcade machine in the lobby that can access the net. VERY POOR set up for airport location hotel.

As for view, if you are lucky you can see the airport. Other wise you are looking at other hotel windows, and they can see you too. Bottom line no view.

Finding something to eat, can be a challenge. Room service is offered, but very limited menu, and NOT 24 hours! If you are dealing with jet lag, and find your self in need of something to eat or drink after midnight, you’re S.O.L. until 5am weekdays and 6am weekends.

For families traveling children, the do have a very small play area in the lobby for younger children and a Playstation (pay per game) for older children.

    Directions: At CDG airport

    A Convienent Place to Stay

    by

This was a nice hotel to stay at . Very clean and comfortable with a direct shuttel to DeGaulle Airport. From there it is quite easy to get to any destination in Paris by using the Metro.

The continental breakfast was excellent with a wide varitey of meats, cheeses, rolls, furits, and yogurts to choose from.

Concierge service left a lot to be desired. The woman who was concierge when I stayed there was quite rude and unfriendly to my coworker and me. Rest of the staff was very nice.

Unique Quality: Nothing extrordinary. Gym, pool, cable/satelite TV

Directions: Next to Charles DeGaulle Airport

There is some suggestions for a long week-end...

TRANSPORTATION
Transportation in Paris is quite cheap.
Try to buy cheaper 10 Metro tickets or a day pass (for 1 to 5 days) with 5 zones (so you can go everywhere from Paris to good places like Versailles, Fontainebleau or Chantilly) See Paris Visit Ticket

MUSEUMS
For Museum lovers, you must buy PARIS MUSEE card it is a Museum Pass for 1 , 2 or 3 days...
My recipe, if you can stay only some days in PARIS.

taste the famous ice cream GLACE BERTHILLON
then walk in the small streets toward NOTRE DAME
then visit LES HALLES but not in the night it is not very safe if you are alone too late

DAY 2 ; MONTMARTRE
Apointment at POST CAFE 70 Bd de Rochechouart (Metro Anvers).
Le funiculare is very cheap : 1 metro ticket
Place du Tertre , you must visit here Restaurant PATACHOU call before (works), very good view on Paris by night)
le Lapin agile, French bistrot
lot of restaurants here (some are not good)...
then walk by feet in the small streets,
le SACRE COEUR

DAY 3: OTHER GOOD PLACES
La grande Mosquee - good restaurant and tea room (minth tea) Pont de Neuilly , Jardin d'acclimatation

APPOINTMENT: ARE YOU LOST ?
it you need a place for an appointment with your friends go to Fontaine St Michel at PLACE SAINT MICHEL , metro Saint Michel (see the picture here). There is a cafe just on the right, the name is LE FENELON (famous man) if you want to wait with a hot drink.

NOTE
if it's cold ourside, go to the bar LE FENELON just on your right, when you are in front of the fountain or go to LA BRIOCHE DOREE or PAUL (it's cheaper, for good croissant or breakfast).

TELEPHONE
Lot of telephone booths in the streets,
the cheapest one is to go in the INTERNATIONAL TELEPHONE small shops or to buy pre-paid cards (KERTEL is a good one) if you need to call abroad.

CHANGE, MONEY
the best places are near PLACE SAINT MICHEL or OPERA GARNIER - Why ? there are lot of tourists and they need change, so there is some competition.

I like the Ibis hotel at the airport (right next to the RER station). They have a great buffet breakfast in the morning, starting at 4 a.m.
The free shuttle bus is next door and runs every 7 minutes to all the terminals.
The rooms are small but clean. The rate is 89euros for a double room. Breakfast is 6 euros.

Hi, there is also a Courtyard there. Seen it from the highway and it looks fairly new.

Do not stay at the Novotel though. I stayed there a long time ago and it's just a plain high-rise, nothing special.
