Where to watch Australian Rugby League in Paris

by thegirlfromnewy

Can you please advise if there are any pubs or bars in Paris which would televise the aussie Rugby League. My partner and I will be in Paris for round one (weekend of the 11th to 14th march 2011)

many thanks

When we were in Paris we watched Australia play two of their World Cup soccer games at the Galway Irish Pub at 13 Quai Grands Augustins, 75006 Paris, France +33 1 43 29 64 50
which is right on the river Seine, just around the corner from Fountain St Michael & St Michael Bridge. They had a couple of large screen TV's & seemed to be a sports bar. Not sure whether they will show the NRL but give them a call.
Good luck!!!!

There are Australian cafés in Paris, like the one below (link); they "play" games from French Top 14 rugby championship, and 6 Nations championship; don't know if they show the Aussie leage or the super 14, but I guess it is worth to try. And they have a big choice of aussie beers ;)))

Don't forget to take note of the time diference. Will these places be open at 8am for an evening kickoff in Australia?

(This because I have become a night creature the past few weeks watching the Ashes cricket here in Portugal.)

Weather forecasts - France/Paris

by breughel

On the VT travel forum a repeated question is that of the weather to be expected on a planned trip.
For FRANCE and PARIS, I use www.france.meteofrance.com where I can see the 7 days previsions. It is in French but it is illustrated and easy to understand. Under "Climat" one can find the weather observations for the past years so that one knows what can be statistically expected at the time of the planned visit.
Another reliable forecast is that of the French television FRANCE 2 http://meteo.france2.fr

Next to those specific country weather forecasts, I often use specialized web sites like www.weather.com or meteo123.com with 10 days weather forecast and weather statistics.
They are easy to use because in English and cover all countries.
My only reproach is that they are sometimes less accurate than the national weather forecast organisations (I have seen that several times for France).

At longer term than these 3 or 10 days there is nobody who can tell you what will be the real weather here in France.
Rain in Paris.

the best moment was when i seen the Manic Street Preachers at the Elysee Montemarte.and it was the first time i heard them sing 'yes' live. the pyramids at the Louvre museum were nice though cause it was really sunny and warm.

Le Marais

by draguza

During the XVIIth century, the Marais area was the area of the elegant townhouses with a Renaissance style. Some of these townhouses can be visited today : the Hotel de Sully ; the Hotel de Lauzun (that Baudelaire and Téophile Gautier frequented), the Hotel de Lamoignon (formerly called Hotel de Beauvais) that houses the Historical Library of Paris (Librairie Historique de Paris); the Hotel de Rohan ; the charming Hotel de Sens that houses the Fornay Library (Librairier Fornay), the Hotel Guénégaud that houses the Museum of Hunting and Nature (Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature) and the Hotel Soubise.

Fete National (Bastille Day)is...

by joecooper

Fete National (Bastille Day)is held once a year on the 14th July. It marks the day when the Bastille (a prison) was stormed and all the prisoners were released. This was basically the beginning of the French revolution. Ask a French person for the exact history behind it! Anyway, the night before there are parties at all the fire stations in Paris and everyone is invited if the behave. At 10am there is a military and fire parade down Le Champs Elysee from L'arc du Triomphe down to Place de la Concorde. At about 11 pm starts the firework display around the Eiffel Tower. This year (2001) the fireworks were launched from the Trocadero. If you are in Paris at this time these two events are NOT to be missed!
