In France there are very frequent trains.
Trains connect bigger cities.
For rural destinations public transport is hardly impossible.
The TGV is the fast train and is bit more expensive than the other trains.
But for long distances you can save a lot of time.
Take care especially on weekends the fast train TGV is often booked out.
The Thalys is the fast train Paris-Bruxelles-Cologne (see my other tip)
The Euro Start is the connection to UK (see my other tip
Has anybody stayed at the Paris Bruxelles hotel (4 Rue Meslay).
Any feedback (good or bad) on hotel would be greatly appreciated.

I stayed once in the area of Republique. The area is safe and liveful. I stayed not far away from Hotel Paris Bruxelles in an hotel called Hotel de l'Exposition, http://www.hotel-exposition.com. The hotel was a 2 star and was really clean. The staff was helpful and smiling.
