Stupid Weather Question
by MapleMoose
The rain in August. The charts show beaucoup wet stuff in August, the wettest month. However, what they don't show is how many wet days. In other words does the rain often fall in buckets and maybe thunderstorms due to the heat and humidity or can it be miserable for days on end? Here's hoping it's the buckets or heavy showers theory!

Impossible to predict. All varieties are possible.

For what it is worth, the BBC says that, on average, there are about 13 days of rain in Paris in August and the average amount for the month is 64mm. But no one knows what August of 2010 will bring of course.

I would agree with Kathrin. Most of France "rnjoys" the European continental climate, with similar temperatures in summeras US or Canadian Great Lake regions, but most likely with more extreme variations: Rain, thuinderstorms, heat wave or cold spells, anything can happen for any lenth of time. Forecasts for more than a week are mosrt unreliable, just like a lottery. Just hope for the best (whatever this is).

Whatever happens I wouldn't worry about it--Paris only gets more beautiful in the rain. :)

Yes, I agree. It keeps tourists off the streets, and makes the streets shiny and romantic.

I Was in Paris for 3 days in May 2009. First day hot as *%*$ second day poured rain. Last day drizzle....prepare for all "changeable weather".

I agree with all the previous answers, however, in August, it is most likely to be thunderstorms in the end of the afternoon with buckets of rain. Just after, it will be gorgeous! But as others have written, anything else can happen, except snow!

Pack an umbrella, get an air conditioned hotel and realize you may need a sweater if you don't need the air conditioning . . . and you'll be fine.
In other words, be prepared for nearly anything. If it pours, there are plenty of places in Paris to visit indoors. If it's gorgeous, there are plenty of places to visit outdoors. You can't lose. ;^)

Thanks.... I think! I wll make sure I have a flexible itinerary and won't commit to things too far ahead.
Travel Tips for Paris
Tour Eiffel
by bugulma
I consider that it's the main sight-seeing in the guide books, so let's begin with Tour Eiffel. I just want to say there are a lot of other fantastic place in the city but if you’ve been in Paris and then backed to your friends, the first question they usually ask whether you see Eiffel Tower. I think that it’s the main reason why every tourist goes there. The tower was built in 1889 in accordance of project of Gustav Eiffel. It has 320 meters high and 3 levels. I was in the 1st and the 2nd levels (2nd level is on 115 meters high). I didn't go to the top because it was a good view of the city from 2nd level and to see the same from the top is not good idea for me. Moreover, to go to the top just for to say then "I was on the top of Tour Eiffel" is not for me too. There are 2 ways to go up: by feet and by lift. I chose my feet because it’s interesting for me. Ticket for it is EUR 3.50.
There are some ways to get the tower, including to get it by feet (the center of the city is not big), but if you want to get tower by public transport you should get RER C-line to Champ de Mars Tour Eiffel station or Metro station Trocadero (6 or 9 line).

Paris is consisted of 20 districts numbered from 1 to 20. The first district is in the city center on the right riverside (North). Districts are placed in spiral around this one clockwise.
The following image shows the disposal of districts.
remember your manners

Just remember, be polite...if you are not sure about something-ask!
Unlike the USA, the waiter will not bring the check until you ask.
The gratuity is included, but leaving an extra Euro or two is appreciated.
Carte de Musées et Monuments
by morganna
If you are planning to visit a few museums and monuments I recommend to buy La Carte de Musées. It's a pass that allows you to take in in a lot of places for free and... without making lines! Very important if you at summer. I purchased it in Barcelona (in Maison della France), so it's really useful.
I saw people making about 2 hours of waiting lines in Versailles or Louvre, and with that pass I just took in showing it =)
