Cheap, clean. Some people might say it's a dump but it is clean and the LOCATION is fabulous. Marias area. We had shower and sink and bidet in room but toilet was this egg pasted on side of building.
I stayed there three times and wouldn't think of going anyplace else. I walked all over from this hotel by myself and never felt threatened. Great old neighborhoods around--great buildings. You will be tempted but don't walk to Louvre as you will be too tired to walk through that huge gallery afterwards. Take the metro and walk it another day.
Highly recommend to single travelers as you will have Paris at your doorstep and not pay a fortune. I think they have rooms for 2, 3, 4-maybe more too. One time I did get the room for one person at the top of the spiral staircase --like 6 floors up. THAT was a little difficult after walking all day. Just ask for a lower room. No lift. Guy has to let you in at night but he gets up.
Right around the corner is ATM, metro, coffee, Hairy Lemon -English/Scottish bar where you can speak english and drink, butcher, grocery, cheese store, pastry shop, wine store. In old Jewish neighborhood so Hassidic children running around, walk to Bastile, Notre Dame. This is just the best location I can imagine in Paris. Right off of Rue de Ravioli (ha!) across from St. Paul Church. English speaking hosts. Free small breakfast, lots of restaurants on little square. If you are more interested in the sites and getting to them than staying at a Holiday Inn and spending time getting places--- stay in this place. Look at map and walk in that direction. Rue d'Ormesson is right off of Ravioli (aka rue d'Rivoli).
