Best Western Premier - Bradford Elysees

by Mstudwell about Quiet and Quaint Paris Hotel

I had to get a reasonable hotel close to the Champs de Elysees on very short notice and I stumbled upon this tiny and very charming Best Western. I did not even feel like I was staying in a Best Western- I felt like I was staying at a Bed and Breakfast- mostly because this building is an old 1890 Haussmann style building. All of the employees spoke English but were more than patience when I wanted to practice my broken French! The inside looks like an old French family style house, it was nice to sit and look through my map in room that resembled a living room rather than a lobby. There is not too much night life and this ally is packed with more smaller business and than restaurants and shops- but it feels as if you are staying in an apartment rather than a hotel. Again, this hotel's charm is it's best quality! Very quaint and charming for a 4 star hotel.

Anniversary

by Weezyfbaby

Hi! Does someone know a good hotel in Paris? My wife and i are planning to go there for our 20th anniversary and we'd like to stay in a well located hotel, i don't really care about the price as long as it stays under 300 euros a night...
Does someone have an idea?
Thank you!

The PARIS-LE GRAND Intercontinental has rooms that start at 309 euros. It is lovely. I have stayed there and it is in a great location across from the Opera.

There are so many choices in Paris. I was fortunate enough to stay with my tours at the Georges V Hotel several times.

But there are also many smaller boutique hotels. I am partial to the St. Germain area as it is close to everything and there is a great little place called the Artus Hotel, which is walking distance to a lot of what Paris has to offer.

We could really was poetic on the many great hotels in Paris. Have you considered perhaps a luxury apartment? Just to give you a contrast take a look aththese two links. I can recommend them both.

A year ago we stayed for 7 nights at the Le Claridge Champs-Elysees, right in the heart of that magnificent area. It is rather old, but our studio was very comfortable and clean and quiet. And, from there, it was easy to get just about anywhere. I'm sure there are other newer, more modern hotels, but our experience was a good one.

You have so many choices in Paris for that price - you really need to base it on in which neighborhood you would like to be. I personally really like the Hotel Verneuil. It's on the left bank just off the Quai and opposite the Louvre. It's in a great location in St Germain des Pres. It's beautiful and affordable. Have a look at their website...

I have never been inside, but the Hotel Lutetia is beautiful from the outside and the location is fabulous. http://www.lutetia-paris.com/en/

But why would you go to Paris and stay at a Hilton or Intercontinental when there are so many lovely independent Parisian hotels???

The Bradford Elysees is really nice and near Champs Elysees, not far from the centre of the capital.

BakPak at the Siene

a case study in terrbile travel photos. The sole purpose of putting this poicture here is to remind me (and hopefully others) of the vices of handing your camera over to a passerby to take a picture of you. By some freak of chance i have been neatly hemmed in by those two flagpoles. Ivan! Off to Paris then?

La Sorbonne

The Sorbonne, seat of the University of Paris until 1969, was established in 1253 by Robert de Sorbon, confessor to Louis 9, for 16 poor scholars to study theology. From these modest origins the college became the centre of scholastic theology.

It's All in the Presentation

One of the pure joys of shopping for anything-except for baguettes-in Paris is the art of how your purchases are presented to you.

When you go to the patisserie or to the chocolatier, your purchases are presented in a nicely wrapped bag or box. At Laduree, for example, when you purchase pastries en masse, the clerks place them neatly in their signature celadon-colored box and place them in their signature celadon-colored shopping bag. Macarons are boxed in tiny celadon-colored boxes.

If you go to a chocolatier, no matter if you buy a few pieces of chocolates, your purchases will be placed in a signature bag and may be even tied up wih ribbon.

This is so unlike the US where your purchases are just thrown into a bag and given to you. Shopping is fun in Paris!

Rue du Calvaire in Montmartre

by Diana75

A real nightmare going home everyday, isn't it?

They couldn't find another name more appropriate for this street than "Rue du Calvaire".

At least the locals don't need to go to gym anymore...

Just wandering in Montmartre was a real delight because we had the chance to discover funny / interesting places like this one.
