Sleeping in the 1st arrondissement: safe for single woman walking alone at night?

by suzy301

Ok, so I seemed to have found the perfect hotel, but it seems totally too good to be true: the Prince Albert Louvre which is 2 blocks north of Jardin des Tuileries, super close to the Louvre and Opera, central to all sights, very reasonably priced, and got very good reviews on Trip Advisor (why wouldn't this place be in either guidebook that I have?)

My question is, is it safe to walk around this area at night? I would think so as it seems to have a lot of sights and restaurants nearby. The hotel is on a little side street, and is 2 short blocks from the Metro.

Thank you to everyone who answered my previous questions about the 7th and 6th areas. Those sounded really good too. The 1st sounds perfect because I want to be able to walk everywhere (and I have a ballet ticket to L'Opera!) Thank you so much again.

It is a very safe area. We stayed on the other side of Vendome on rue de la Paix and there was a police presence even late at night. It is very quiet after 11PM.

WE just returned from Paris last week. The 1st is very safe. We stayed in the 4th near Notre Dame and it was very safe and seemed to be more centrally located. I had never been to Paris before and it was a difficult decision between the 1st and the 4th. I'm glad we chose the 4th. Overall, Paris gets very quiet after 10 P.M. (That was VERY unexpected!) I'm not familiar with the particular hotel you're inquiring about - we rented an apartment. Less expensive all the way around. Have fun!
