Great Location but Room Condition not Spa-like

We had a suite for a family of 4 which consisted of two large rooms on the first floor overlooking a side street perpendicular to Rue Rivoli. We arrived late and ordered dinner in our room which was very good.

The suite was comfortably large for two teenage children in the family, especially for Paris, but the condition of the room was atrocious. The sheets and bathroom were clean, but the rest of the room was very ratty and frayed. Torn carpets, cracked wallpaper, damaged old wall borders. Although on the first floor, it had the feeling of a basement room. The condition of the room made me not want to try the spa although the lobby gave a different impression. The price made sense in the lobby but not in the room.

There was a long line at breakfast and a 15 minute wait, but once seated, the choice of food was plentiful although coffee service was slow. Garage ceiling is too low for jeeps so stay somewhere else if you want to use the hotel parking with a jeep.

Location says it all here, you are one block from the Louvre and one block from the Place de la Concorde. Plus, all the shopping right on Rue Rivoli. Just beware of the condition of the room -- I don;t want to stay in that room again...you feel spiders will come out of the woodwork.

Unique Quality: Condition of rooms is not characteristic of a spa hotel. So not a good value for money.
Great location.

Right location - Right price

What a location at a reasonable price. Located on the Rue De Rivoli straight opposite the Jardin de Tuileries and about 300m from the Louvre and Place de la Concorde and Champs Elysee. Staff very friendly and helpful, amenities were excellent.
We had a duplex suite opening onto courtyard. Upper floor rooms on the front have excellent views.
Recommend hotel to everyone.
5 star Le Meurice only 100m away so must be good location.

Wonderful Location - Rue de Rivoli

Excellent location - on the Rue de Rivioli across the street from the Louvre. Ask for a courtyard view if you wish for a quiet stay away from the sounds of the street.

Unique Quality: Very historic, wonderful location, excellent food.

St. James a treat

by A TripAdvisor Member

Frist time vistor to Paris and very glad I stayed at the St. James. The location for a frist time vistor is wonderful. Walk out the front door and you are greeted with the Tulliers and the Metro, turn left and your at the Louve, right the Arch and the Effile in the background. We did not have one problem with getting around, in fact people would stop if we were studing a map and ask if we needed help.

The staff at the St. James were smiling and very helpful and went out of thier way to help. The breakfast buffet started off your day with a smile on your face and in your tummy. Fruit, cereal, egg's, bacon and juice, coffee, tea and of cousre pastry.

The standard room was clean, plenty of closet space, bath and a seprate wc, mini bar, tv, hair dryer and large towels. Floor to ceiling windows that open to overlook a courtyard. A charming bar with dark wood, low ceilings and smiling faces. Dining room out did them selves on New Years. I could go on and on, but try it for yourself.

Good location.. but beware of room# 633 jr. suite

by TripAdvisor Member tonyshih

Got here first day very early and can not check in until after 1:00 pm.. okee.. then.. show me to my jr. Suite.. room# 633.. holy cow..
stay away from that room.. it look like somewhere came out of horror movies. I asked for another jr. suite.. they say "sorry, nothing available". so, I downgraded to a regular room for one nite. Next day, they gave me a jr. suite..well.. a bit better.. nothing like what the photos on website shown.. but least livable. I am now in room# 436. As for internet access.. wireless??? forget it.. bunch of crap.. you better have a ethernet to phone jack type of line.. otherwise, you will not be able to dial out. I had to barrow one from their technician..
otherwise I won't be able to write this review now while I am staying here.. right? Anyway, the location is really incredible.. don't forget to walk to the side streets and the area.. it is so good to be so close to all the major attactions.. thus, the location give it a excellent place to stay.. but everything else about the hotel definitly have to improve.. in fact, for those of you that don't mind paying a bit more, I suggest you to stay a hotel down a block away.. check out Majestic Hotel.. Take my words for it..

Nice hotel and fantastic location

by A TripAdvisor Member

we liked it! we stayed in a junior suite room 721, small but very quiet, brand new bathroom. room was suitable and we slept very well; we could see toulleries garden across the street. this is a fantastic location, just down the street from the louvre and across from a metro stop. the staff was very busy but nice. breakfast was large and excellent -- if included with your hotel stay price. if not, get juice and croissants down the street at a patisserie. the hotel also has an incredibly beautiful pool, sauna, fitness room and spa that my husband used a lot (he was the only one who brought his bathing suit!). he also jogged daily in the garden right across the street. we found the internet to be perfectly usable -- you pay 15 Euros per hour and you can use one of two computers they have in the business center. don't waste your time in paris sitting on the computer!! we'd stay there again. one more thing: people complain that they show up in the morning and have to wait for a room. but few hotels either in paris or the U.S.
have rooms ready in the morning. plan to arrive after 2 and you'll certainly get a room right away. we thought the hotel could use a concierge to relieve pressure on the desk staff.

Sweet Paris hotel

by TripAdvisor Member susiewonder

i came and was staying in this hotel for several nights and i thought that is was marvellous. the location is great as it is very close to lots of the sights, the louvre is a few minutes away and the tuileries gardens are within a throw shot! the entrance ad reception is great and the staff are more than helpful. the room itself was great and comfortable and provided us with all we needed. the oilet room was a tiny bit small but that is not really important! it is a wonderful hotel with great location and i would reccomend it!!

Disgusted

by A TripAdvisor Member

I must have been the unlucky guest judging by your other reviewers comments. The room I had (A petite suite at over £200 a night) was a disgrace. Filthy, cigarette burned carpets. A decrepit toilet. Broken Sink. The double bed was precisely 6 ft long and the whole room smelt awful.Suggest anyone thinking of staying there confirms if the room they are going to get has been recently refurbished

Great Location, Pleasant Staff, Terrible Room

by A TripAdvisor Member

Indeed a very nice hotel with a great location and pleasant helpful staff. But beware of room 603. Billed as a "superior," room it met none of the criterion of that over a standard room - unless you count a kitchen chair placed in the corner as a sitting area with sofa and a window looking into other guests rooms as a "view." To make matters worst, the bed must also have dated to the 17th century - the most uncomfortable week of sleep ever experienced in my life (I half contemtemplated sleeping on the floor instead.) Mind you the room would have been bad but acceptable if booked and billed as it really was - nothing more than and barely standard.

4 stars?

by TripAdvisor Member mspdan

I don't know who gave this hotel a four star rating. Maybe they could share their medication with me. If all you want is a convienant location, spend away. If you like hotels with a little service, a little luxury, a little quiet, and a little freshness, go elsewhere.
Service? We couldn't find a decent cup of coffee in or near the hotel, luckily, there is a Starbucks about 10 minutes away. Not so lucky when it comes to asking the hotel for access to a microwave to heat the coffee. Luxury? Bring your own roll of toilet paper. They use the same high-grit paper found at the local McDonald's. Quiet? you can't walk from one room to another without waking all in your room due to the squeaky floors. Same goes for when the person above decides to walk around. Freshness? Our carpet had tracks worn in it and the color worn out. Need more? Don't have them mail anything if you want it sent, though they will take your money and the letter. Don't expect a response from Clarion customer service, though they do give you a nice form to fill out and promise response in a week.

Good Cafe near Tuilerie Gardens

by ESQinDC

Bon Jour!

Heading to Paris in April and will be staying near the Tulliere Gardens at the Hotel St. James & Albany. Can anyone reccomend a good place nearby to grab a coffee and crossiant while I read La Monde?

Thanks
Dru....

Your hotel is on rue de Rivoli. There is a McDonalds nearby. Turn the corner that the McDonalds is on and you should be able to find quite a few cafes around there.

Angelina's Salon du The has wonderful hot chocolate. It's on rue de Rivoli across the street from Les Tuileries.
