There are two hotels in one here; either the section with an elevator and nicer rooms, or the other regular ones. I've stayed in both, and here we did not suffer with lack of space, which is such an advantage for Paris. New, modern, clean rooms. Ask for a quiet one not facing Bd. du Montparnasse.
Unique Quality: Surrounded by restaurants, shops at rue de Rennes and a mall with Galleries Lafayette across the street, close to La Poste (the post-office) and with a subway entrance right in front of the hotel's door (Montparnasse Bienvenüe, lines 12, 4, 13 and 6), which can be very convenient. And if you read The Day of the Jackal, be aware that the hotel lies in that Place du 18 Juin, so you'll probably stay at the same room where the Jackal tried to shoot De Gaulle!!
Directions: Bd. du Montparnasse and Rue de Rennes
We need a hotel for one night very close to Gare Montparnasse so we can catch an 8am train. Anyone have any recommendations. We'd like some comforts but it doesn't have to be 'glitzy' - it's only one night.
A nice 1 to 3 star would be perfect.
I suggest :
Hotel Terminus Montparnasse
59 bd Montparnasse
The Ibis on Rue du Chateau (nearest Metro: Pernety) is where I have have stayed a couple of times. It;s well placed for locations such as Gare Montparnasse, as well as transport to Orly airport, should anyone else be interested. Rooms are quite small, though comfortable, with en suite and TV. There's a bar downstairs and it's just around the corner from Avenue du Maine. This is a residential area with and there are many cafes/ restaurants etc.
Rooms are around 70 E for a double. www.ibishotel.com
