I was amazed to see these small green boxes on stilts with doggie pictures on them. They looked more like american mail boxes, but on closer inspection they turned out to be doggie poo bag holders. Simply take a bag from here and clean up after your dog.
Puteaux certainly likes to keep its town clean!
In such a business-minded area, it is interesting to see that the designers have thought about people who will work 'till craze in this unnatural buildings. They consequently decided to set tree-lined alleys so that workers may, from time to time, relax and chill-out without escaping miles away from their working place...
There are around 5 million Muslims living in France today. There are very few purpose built mosques, instead houses have been converted to accomodate regular worshippers. As a result these mosques are overcrowded and not what you would expect.
Puteaux main mosque is a converted building (houses), which is really over crowded, such that during prayer times in Ramadan and Friday prayers the worshippers are forced on to the road to pray on make shift carpets. This isnt so good for local residents.
If you want to pray here make sure you are at least 10 minutes early. The lectures here are in Arabic usually.
This mosque is on 32 Rue Saulnier, Puteaux, 92800, La Defense.
Its also La Defenses nearest mosque, takes approx 10-12 minutes by walk to get to.
Surrounding some splendid trees in a sort of a Japanese garden on the "Esplanade de La Defense", stone squares were sculpted so that, at each corner, there are faces probably representing love or friendship...
A modern looking building in the heart of Puteaux, one of many Synagogues dotted around Paris. The architecture is unusual and had my colleague not pointed it out I would never have known. The site and building was commisioned by the Puteaux town administration at the cost of around 8 million Euros. .
Its interesting to learn that the Jewish community of Puteaux had its own internet site: www.syna-puteaux.org. You would have found here in particular the schedules of Chabbat, the dates of the Jewish Festivals, Paracha of the week, the word of Rav, the activities of Talmud and the events of the Community. Unfortunately for some reason the Jewish commision who were in charge decided to take this site down?
