Hall of Mirrors under renovation (Oct. '04)

(Note that I traveled to Versailles in Oct. '04, so info may have changed.)
Just passing on a little bit of info, the Hall of Mirrors is under renovation and I would estimate that 75% of it is behind walls and scaffolding. The last 25% at the end is viewable.

About a hundred years Versailles was the basic residence of kings, having overshadowed the Parisian residence - Louvre. On October, 7th, 1789 on the eve of revolution Parisian mearchents organized a campaign to Versailles. Then Lui the Sixteenth with family came back to Paris where they were executed fast.

The castle which was left by a royal court yard, came to desolation and was exposed to robberies. In 1837 it was restored by Lui-Filipp. He established the Museum of France history. In 1870 the castle was occupied with Germans. The coronation of German emperor Wilhelm passed here.

The most powerful people of this world visited Versailles. It is interesting to us that in 1681 Russian ambassadors, and in 1717 - Peter the Great visited Vesailles. Apparently it became a push to construction of Peterhof in St. Petersbourg. Therefore we compare Versailles first of all with its Russian version.
