Self-catering in Collioure
by foona
We've started to look for self-catering apartments in Collioure for next summer. We have found these ad-sites:
Homelidays. http://www.homelidays.co.uk/EN-Holidays-Rental/fr_languedocrous_66-pyreneesorientales_fr/collioure_r3.asp
Holidaylettings. http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/collioure/hom_home_type.apartment/
HomeAway. http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/collioure/s/2412/fa/find.squery
Self-Catering-Breaks. http://www.self-catering-breaks.com/Properties/France/Languedoc/Collioure/
Does anyone have any experience booking from one of these? Any recommendations? Are the ads reliable? Do the ads show the real truth about the apartments?
Do you know about a gem of an apartment not found in these sites?
Thanks for any info.

Thanks Barbara
I fell in love with the cottage the first time I visited your Collioure page. Unfortunately it's not available in end of June beginning of July. I'm glad to hear the ads are reliable.

Hi. We've used http://www.holiday-rentals.com/World/r1.htm many times and had great luck. We are currently in the process of renting one of their gites not too far from Carcassonne for next May. We've found the ads to be spot-on and if you need more photos, the owners will usually comply.
You might also try Gites de France at http://www.gites-de-france.com/gites/uk/rural_gites
You will love Collioure. We're headed that way after 8 days near Carcassonne. Gorgeous area of France. Enjoy.

Travel Tips for Collioure
We started out trip from...
by DPando
We started out trip from Barcelona until Figueres, where we left the motorway to France, cause we prefer the national and beautiful road from figueres to portBou and Collioure until Perpignan
We stopped in Portbou, a small and lovely Costa Brava town, where there are a few people (so strange in summer season)
We went to visit the train station, perhaps the main attraction there with the beach of course
Fortified Church.
by kiwi
History abounds in this town, and from various different eras.
On the North end of the town harbour is the 17th century fortified church of the Notre-Dame-des-Anges. There is something contradictory about a "fortified church" but then we are reminded that differing religions have fought many times in history.
The bell tower has been a light house many years ago. I love the clock face on the side of it now!!
Imposing Fortress.
by kiwi
More history. To the South end of the harbour and you can't miss the huge Château Royal. Dating back from the 12th Century it is now partly used by the French naval forces for frogman training. I wonder if this is where the frogman who blew up the Rainbow Warrior of my hometown, trained??? They even had rubber inflatables as well as sailing craft, and us Kiwis couldn't help but laugh when we saw these.
Rock buildings.
by kiwi
Even the Cinema is situated in traditional rock buildings. This is on the edge of a maze of small streets and shops mostly artist studios these days.
Ancient streets around the château were demolished to make way for more fortification.
