New hotel du Midi
Right on the edge of the Place de la Comedie and ideal for being close to all the events and nightlife. It can get a bit noisy late in the evening in the Place and early hours of the morning, but that is to be expected. Everyone knows where it is of you get lost. It is clean and comfortable, well attended and I had no complaints.
My husband was attending a meeting in Montpellier before I arrived, most of the people had been accomodated in this hotel at a preferred rate. The hotel is ready to look after conventions, meetings and other functions. They offer exceptional deals for large numbers of guests. The service is fast and efficient.
Unique Quality: Unfortunately no garden to sit out in, but then in two minutes you were in the Place. It had just been redecorated and modernised and felt clean.

Grand Hotel du Midi
We only stayed here one night, and that was mid-week and off-season (March 2009). The room was quite large, and the bathroom huge. The room had a rather empty feel (because it was so large given the amount of furniture), but very comfortable, and there was an air conditioning unit that could be controlled from a little i/r handset.
The hotel is just off the Place de la Comedie, so right in the centre of Montpellier, and only 5 minutes walk from the station. The decor in the common areas has been given a slightly whacky "post punk" treatment , which is quite endearing.
The staff were polite and helpful, and we were pleased that we stayed here rather than in one of the cheaper chain hotels further out of the centre.
Unique Quality: Central location and unusual decor.

Good location, not much of comfort
Business stay. Hotel is right on the central Commide area. Metro handy, shopping and Mall close. rooms were small, older but clean, central area of Montpellier is very noisy much of the night, rooms have little sound proofing. I was not very happy and moved to the Holiday Inn after one night.
TGV and main Train station is only a couple of blocks away.

Great location in Montpellier, France
We used Montpellier as a base for travelling in the general region and wanted a hotel located near the main square so we'd easily find dinner when we came back at the end of the day. Most of the reviews on Virtual Tourist were good so we took a chance and booked it. Our room was lovely and newly-decorated as was the hotel. We were right by the Place de la Comedie, the Tram (one stop from train station) and yet our room was very quiet.
We were surprised and delighted with Montpellier itself and spent one day exploring it instead of the surrounding countryside. A lively university town without the usual touristy feel.
Back to the hotel: We opted not to have breakfast as it was 12 Euros each per day!
I'd recommend this hotel especially for train travellers. Car drivers might find it less convenient as it is just within the pedestrian zone.
Unique Quality: I have to say its location couldn't have been better. The room was very comfortable and nicely re-done. Brand new bath with good shower.

The hotel is currently being refurbished, unfortunately we weren't lucky enough to get one of the completed rooms. So I can only comment on what we recieved. The front of the Hotel is a mass of scaffolding, the room we recieved was clean, very spacious and comfortable, but lacking somwhat in finesse.
The service we recieved was good, and the breakfast is to be commended a small selction of Meats, Conserves, Pastries, Crossaints, Juices and Cereals. Everything was fresh and appetising (which regular travellers will know is not always the case in continental European hotels.).
Unique Quality: The best thing about the Hotel is it's location, right beside the Place de la Comédie, and the lovely Opera House. Excellent for getting around the city and very convenient for the Railway Station and the cities Tram service.
