Places to stay

by solace29

Hey guys

would anyone be able to advise me of any good apart hotels - centrally located? I'm going to be coming over from the UK to work in MPL for 3 months, haven't a clue where to stay, but would like to be centrally located so I can go out on the weekends and have good links to public transport.

appreciate your advise....

I am from the US, and I lived in Montpellier for 2 months last summer. A GREAT Apart/Hotel to look into is the Citadine Antigone, it has a fantastic location in the modern part of the city (Antigone) which has restaurants and is close to the Lez River, and the tram stops right in front of it which can easily be taken to the Place de la Comedie (bars, nightlife) or anywhere else. The address is 558 Bld D'Antigone, 3400 Montpellier. I would HIGHLY recommend this place as it has internet access, a breakfast service, balcony and beautiful rooms. Good Luck!

We stayed in the Citidines in the Place d'Antigone right next to the star tram and highly recommend it. Some of the units are much smaller than others, at the same price, ask for a large balcony that gets sun for the best value.

Travel Tips for Montpellier

Current info in English

by mpprh

Montpellier has 80,000 students and is the location of many conferences.

It is worthwhile checking the conference sites, as they give good info in English.

The International European Conference on Computing and Philosophy (ECAP) 2008 takes place in June. No idea whazt it is about, but their website has loads of travel info : http://www.lirmm.fr/ecap08/accommodation.php !

Clamouse

by JLBG

After Gellone, the abbey in the sun, you must visit the Clamouse cave, the cathedral in the night. Clamouse cave is a must. It was discovered in the late 40s and open for visit in the early 60s. That means that it has never been visited with oil lamp and has not been spoiled by the deposit of charcoal from these lamps, as many ''old'' caves (i.e. visited since the turn of last century : grotte des Demoiselles near Montpellier, grotte de Han in Belgium, etc...). Its the most ''decorated'' cave I know : it is full of concretions of all kind, of all color and of all size. The visit is really a must. It's the kingdom of night !

St Anne Church

by BurgerQueen

This church was built from 1866 to 1869 at the time of the economic advancement of the city. Its majestic bell-tower is visible of all the town of Montpellier. The area of St Anne church is very French: a lot of bistros and cafés border the narrow tiny medieval streets. You cannot help stopping for a tea or an aperitif in one of them.

Montpellier

I was born in a small area named Jura. it is a really beautiful place with various landscapes. But the biggest drawback is the lack of sun...that is why I decided three years ago to live in the south of france. I arrived in Montpellier and at my first step in this city I really falled in love !! Montpellier is made by people from everywhere in france. Among the 245.000 inhabitants there is 80.000 students ! Montpellier is an active city, people are very open minded and the sun keeps shining ! Situated on the mediterranean coast it is at 3 hours road from the french alps and 2 hours from the pyrennee. Barcelona is only at 3 hours road.

"the Arc de Triomphe"

You may be surprised but Paris is not the only one to get an Arc de triomphe. There is also one in Montpellier. Of course this one is not so big but as you can see on the picture it has wonderful colors

"Place de la comedie"

The famous place de la comedie...this place is really great. In spring and in summer it is always a big pleasure to have a cafe on this huge place. It is all done for pedestrian with lots of cafes and shops.

"Montpelleir has great buildings"

I visited Montpellier on my 9 day trip around France.I stayed at a small town called Aigues Mortes(20km from Montpellier)in a beautiful hotel next to a canal. We went to Montpellier for the day.Montpellier was very clean and it had beautiful shops, buildings and a lovely river. We walked along the river and then had a meal in a water side complex of restaurants.
It was abit dull here, but it was still warm in Oct.The food and drink was very good value here and i will be returning one day.
Im adding pics now and and info very shortly.
Thanks for visiting this page

Rach ;-)
