I spent nearly 3 months in Nimes and had the best time of my life. The people are friendly and helpful. The scenery in Nimes from les Arenes to la Maison Carree to les Jardins are absolutely breathe taking. Not only is the scenery fabulous it is also nice place to rest for a few days before you hit some of the larger tourist areas. It would be a good stay to hit Avignon and Arles and stay in Nimes at night. You will not run out of things to see and do. Nimes holds a special place in my heart because of the wonderful people I encountered. I would spend endless days at the Napoleon, a local cafe/bar. People of all ages gather here to interact and enjoy each other. The wonderful people at Napoleon taught me everything from, how to properly pronouce 'kir' to the ins and outs of what is improper French (atleast to the older generations). Just the thought of Nimes and its inhabitants brings back fond memories of Pastis and Sangria.
The town of Aigues-Mortes
by Pierre_Rouss
Aigues-Mortes
The little town was founded by Louis IX in 1241. It is enclosed by crenellated and tower-strengthened walls 25 to 30 feet (8 to 9 m) high, which trace a rectangle roughly 1/2 by 1/4 mile (800 by 400 m). The medieval town plan remains intact.
This fortified city is beautiful.
Located West of the Camargue.

La Camargue
This part of the Rhônes delta contains salty marshes, dry lands, that host a huge range of wild life. The Camargue wild horses, the wild black bulls, pink flamingoes, herons, ducks and other birds. Spend a day, enjoying the calm and wildness of this place.
Have a drink or eat with the people.
The highlight is the small village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

Le Castellum divisorum
is a distribution tank, set in the rock from which pipes ran to the monuments and public fontains. It is the point of arrival of the aqueduct in Nîmes. It can be found near the University Vauban, outside of the town centre. Apart from the historic importance not really spectacular in my opinion.
In Provence

"More Roman Ruins!"
So we just left Nimes, a quiet little town in Provence. They had a still functional 18,000 seat amplitheatre from roman times. They were having a huge bull fighting festival next week. Pretty neat. We also saw an intact temple. We took a bus out to the countryside and saw the old aquaduct. The pond du gard was ver cool with the three layers of arches. We bought some gifts and moved on. We went to an irish pub the first night to play some pool and for the second time on the trip a huge group of Italian school children showed up with their teachers. Why dont american field trips involve bars? We are so out of touch. We actually stayed at a hotel in Nimes. A private room with 2 beds and a private shower and toileteabd TV!!! We watched quite a few french shows that we couldnt understand a word of. We missed the talkiong box with the bright colors and moving pictures. We are now on a 4 hour layover in Lyon on our way to Paris (who would have thought the trains would be packed on a saturday to paris...). We will have 4 full days there which will include most of the sights and museums, versailles, and Eurodisney. Then on to Rheims in Champagne to try Champagne, then to Brussels and then we fly out. On the home stretch now. Well we are off to see Lyon (looks like a lot of skyscrapers from here but we will se what we can in 2 hours). Bye!!
"Full of Bull"
Jim would have been a great bullfighter. Notice the crotch is rubbed a nice brass. Every private part on European statues was like this. Good luck indeed.
