THE AMPHITHEATRE by LoriPori
The AMPHITHEATRE in Nimes is one of the best preserved in the whole of the Roman world and shows the installations that architects at the end of the 1st century AD designed for this type of structure, which was intended for the presentation of animal or gladiator combats.
There was seating room for over 23,000 spectators on the 34 terraces of the cavea. Different social ranks sat in different areas. The public could reach their seats through 5 galleries at different levels and by way of numerous staircases.
