Don't Rock Climb on the bridge!
The bridge is over 2000 years old and the stone shows the age. Please treat the bridge with respect and don''t pick at it for a souvenir! It is terrible to take a piece of history from its native environment.

The road to Nimes
What is the approx taxi fare from rail station to airport? Where is the airport shuttle location at the rail station in Nimes?
Thanks!
There is a complete timetable for the airport bus here
http://www.nimes-aeroport.fr/presentation/index.asp?rub_code=8&thm_id=55&gpl_id=
it lists all the stops. (Avenue) Feuchères(Gare)is the starting point which is a wide tree lined road opposite the station entrance.
Sorry I don't know the taxi fare, but as the airport is 15km from town it's not going to be cheap.
Hope that helps.

Founded in the 9th century to shelter the tomb of the hermit Giles, the BENEDICTINE ABBEY was to become an important shrine for Christians during the 11th and 12th centuries. The religious wars (1562-1622) dealt the abbey a blow from which it never recovered. In the 17th century the remains of the Romanesque nave were used to build a Church (1650) in a rather undistinguished late Gothic style.
As Hans, Wim and I were visiting the abbey, there was a lot of commotion around it, as a wedding was about to take place. We watched as the friends and family of the bride and groom arrived. When the bride and groom emerged from the Church, the bells rang and firecrackers went off. Then they proceeded by foot and followed by friends and family, disappeared into the neighbourhood. It was quite an experience.
These lovely gardens built in the 18th Century were constructed over a area of importance dating to Roman Times. In fact, springs and similar constructions were said to have been here in the 2nd Century. The remains of the Temple of Diana testifies to the Roman origin.
The current gardens are entered through a gate embossed with the symbol and emblem of the city of Nimes.
The picture shows la Porte Auguste, the Roman Gate, once part of the longest city walls in Gaul. It was built approximately 20 years prior to la Maison Carree.
That's a funny trick of the light, isn't it?
Nîmes is known as the most Roman city of France. Almost everything in the city centre has it´s origin in this period. It´s a wonderful sight: temples, an arena and still in the same position: the antique Forum, the central square!
