What a charming village
"We had a great time!"
We visited Uzes as part of a large, week-long event, but were surprised at how wonderful a place it was. Instead of staying in the hotel with most of the other attendees, we found a simple self-catered apartment just across the street which we enjoyed immensely. It was great to be able to have breakfast as we dressed and prepared for our pre-planned day (i.e. instead of having to go to a restaurant) and to retire to a light meal or snack, with wine, in the evening. To do this, we got to shop with the locals at the marche around the corner, the meat market down the street, the boulangerie next to that, and the patisserie on the next block. We felt like locals in no time and got the feel for the place quickly. There are two street marches each week which are apparently well-known in France for the caliber of their offerings, yet they never felt intimidating or too expensive.
