Limoges to Toulose

by gypsierose

We are travelling from Limoges to Toulose & would like to find somewhere cheap & homely to stay in between the 2 places for a night. We are unsure whether to take the train or a bus? Any tips will be welcome thanks

You will be able to get train times and details in English here:

http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

For fares as well, you will need to use the French railway site. In French, but easy to work out:

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train/horaires

I doubt you will need to buy tickets in advance.

I would always take the train in preference to bus, if train is available, simply because it is more comfortable and takes less time. Bus is often cheaper, however, and obviously serves a wider range of destinations.

I have always wanted to visit Cahors which is in Lot and is probably nearer Toulouse than Limoges.
Wait I will check the map:
Yes by road it is 187 kms from Limoges and only 112 kms from Toulouse.
You can take a train direct to Cahors from Limoges or take a regional train and change at Brive. I think you have the links for discovering train times above. But I would give you the link for the REGIONAL trains on French Railways for the areas you pass through--

So you start in the LIMOUSIN

http://www.ter-sncf.com/limousin/index.asp

and through MIDI PYRENEES

http://www.ter-sncf.com/midi_pyrenees/carte_horaires/index.asp

In Cahors you find several hotels of various prices. One of the best is an INTER HOTEL Valentre:

Just to clarify, both of the links I provided list regional trains.

And also to clarify, in case there is confusion, the links I mentioned above are for the Regional train services and provide some more detail that is not available on the 2 links that leics supplied. For example you can view a map of the region with the train network. I think this needed clarifying because when planning a trip it is sometimes useful to see the network.

And also you can download a pdf file of the actual timetable for those regional lines that show all the stops en route.

I'll put in another vote for Cahors. It's on your train line and full of history. It would be a great overnight stop with plenty to do. I'll also second the Logis de France chain of small family-owned hotels. We nearly always stay in them. They are very French, not like the chain hotels off the AutoRoute. You really feel like you are in France and the hosts are incredibly welcoming and helpful. They nearly always have an excellent restaurant too. I noted two in Cahors and the Hotel de la Paix looked the more interesting. It's right in the historic district. http://www.hoteldelapaixcahors.com/index_en.html

You can also check the Logis de France web site given to you in a previous post.

Travel Tips for Limoges

Les Eyzies-de-Tayac

by Pierre_Rouss

Les Eyzies-de-Tayac
The Périgord region is like a gruyère cheese. It is mined with caves and underground tunnels. It is a dream for speleologist or anybody who enjoy cave visits.
Les Eyzies is probably one of the most beautiful one I visited.
