Le Saint Eloi: One of the excellent Logis de France

We selected the St Eloi from the famous green book of Logis de france as suitable place to break our journey through France. The small village of Solignac is just south of Limoges and has some historic interest.

The Le Saint Eloi is run by an English couple which took us a little by surprise. The rooms are very clean and freshly decorated each has a themed name.

The restaurant was also nicely furnished, but sadly the food was not consistent. We were told how excellent was the quality of the meat and it was regarded as something of a specialty with the various breeds as a feature. We found, however, that our steaks were tough and not cooked to our requirement. It is likely that our meals were mixed up and neither of us had what we requested, but then neither was cooked to suit the other either! The desserts were much better, hard to spoil a sorbet but my trio of creme brulee was delicious also.

Breakfast again was mixed, bread and croissants fresh and good but the coffee left a lot to be desired and the prepacked jams were truly awful.

Our verdict, not bad at all overall but room for a few tweaks to improve things greatly
