Nancy Accessible
by tini58de
I found a great website on the net which states shops, offices, restaurants etc. that are accessible by the handicapped, aged persons or parents with a buggy - put in order both alphabetically and theme oriented:
http://nancyaccessible.amih.net (in French only, but addresses are addresses, so you will manage!)
I think this is a fantastic initiative! Very helpful!
There is also some more information for visually impaired and hard-of-hearing persons to be found here.
Licence plates
by tini58de
There is a system to the French license plates:
to find out where the car was registered you have to look at the last two digits of the license plate. They correspond with the first two digits of the zip (postal) code of the area where the car is from. In Nancy for instance you will mostly find cars with a 54 as the last two numbers on the license plate, since the postal code of Nancy is 54000. The Alsace has 67, further south you find the 68 and so on - it is fun to track down the origins of the cars this way!
The Hotel de ville
by hquittner
The largest building on the square is the Hotel de ville which contains the tourist office in addition to important activities of the city. The interior has a prominent interior ground floor and prominent a wrought-iron stairway to the main floor. On the outside is a fine balustrade and further grilles.
Channel
by bugulma
If you go further from railway station along Rue St Jean and Rue St Georges (of course, you may choose other streets), you may reach the channel. I had a journey here in my last day in Nancy, I don't know why but I wanted to see the channel very much
See the Place des Desilles
by hquittner
Walking west from the Porte de la Craffe, we came to the north edge of the Cours Leopold where there was built the last of the Triumphal arches created in Nancy before the Revolution erected 1785 in honor of the birth of the Dauphin, son of Louis XVI. It also celebrates the alliance of France with the new United States of America and is named for Desilles.
