Travel Tips for Nancy
Stanislas Square
by bugulma
Stanislas Square was open in November 1755 and it was the final part of construction of the architectural ensemble (the building was begun in March 1752). When square was inaugurated the statue of Louis XV decorated the place but it was disappeared after the Revolution. Nowadays there are City Hall, Opera House and Fine Arts Museum as buildings around Stanislas Square. In addition tourist office is near by too.
Dogs
by tini58de
People in Nancy seem to like dogs - and people!!! We did see quite a bit of evidence that dogs are cherished - they even have their own walking lanes!!! I have never seen anything like that before!
On the other hand people are being protected from dog poop - you find boxes with plastic bags (so called canisacs) all over the place! Very useful for dog poop disposal! I do not know if there is a fine for not removing your dog's "leftovers", but I could very well imagine that there is!
And hey, doesn't that little doggie look cute?
Sacre Coeur Church
by solopes
Out of our plans, this church peeping over Majorelle Villa's shoulder, attracted us by its exotic look.
We visited it and discovered that it is a new (100 years old) Roman-Byzantine church, inspired in the Sacre-Coeur in Paris. Nice interior with great stained glasses.
La Carriere Square
by solopes
Right beside the Stanislas Square, this square, respecting the geometry of the 18th century is... ugly! I mean, both extremes are beautiful with Herè's arch connecting with Stanislas Square, and the harmonious Charles de Gaulle square at the other, but the middle is wide and... empty!
I think that something is missing there.
Walk the Art Nouveau circuit
by tini58de
The Tourist Information has a suggested walk to enjoy many of the Art Nouveau buildings in Nancy. You can get a special map at the Tourist Office at Place Stanislas or download it here.
It is a nice walking circuit that gives you time to enjoy the buildings, the details and sometimes also the interiors (as e.g. in the Brasserie Excelsior).
You can go at your own pace, make your own little itinerary and take as much time as needed. We went on an afternoon tour, which was not crowded at all, so we strolled along the streets and really loved it! Very relaxing!
