Easy to navigate

Though Albi is a rather large city, it is for the most part extremely easy to find your way around. There is a large, free parking lot below the Cathedral and near the river. From here everything is a very easy walk. All the attractions are basically set in on centralized location. Once you find the Cathedral, everything is very nearby. The tourist office is set right next to the Toulouse-Lautrec museum in the Palais de le Berbie.
Most of the cafes and shops are also right near the Cathedral. The city is very beautiful. You can't go wrong.
St.-Salvy: Find the Square Behind the Apse
by hquittner
Behind the apse of the church was a scruffy wide parking area with a few interesting buildings, one with a fine set of brick arcades. It was called, we think, the Pl.St.-Salvi. We found a place to eat lunch there but do not have a record. We just saw a fine picture of it in the tourist office website (which is full of pictures) as a recommended resting stop with tables and large umbrellas (and no cars), but no mention of an eatery. Give it a look.
Watch the big trompe-l’œil
by kokoryko
Trompe-l’œil can be found in many places in different styles, for different purposes. . . .
In Albi, may be some locals were fed up with the view of bricks everywhere, and they decided to decorate some facades. . . . .
West of the old district, on the slopes of the hill where the old city is built, you may come across this allegory (some may see a “creation” in Michelangelo’s style), in rue Catalane (picture 1) (43°55’ 42”N ; 02°08’26”E), where I see the abolition of slavery during the French revolution; I see also people loving life, having a drink sharing stories. . . and people, just curious, painted a bit with some anachronism (picture 2) on this detail.
In other places of Albi, are other trompe-l’oeil, like this one on a door, rue de la Temporalite, near Palais de la Berbie; people of Toulouse Lautrec’s time looking at his paintings. . . (picture 3).
Just to tell that there are not only bricks in the old city, and having a look at something different is quite enjoyable, and this does not at all (like in other places) spoil the streets of Albi.
