Le Conqu'errant: Gypsy style.
Situated in the valley a couple of kms from Conques, is this peaceful little site that has everything. The river flows through the garden where the fishermen amongst you can have a bit of fun. A swimming pool and sundeck for clients only is available close to the Restaurant/Grill. Plenty of parking space is available for vehicles.
The restaurant/grill is open also for non-residents with a start up menu for around 12 euros.
Unique Quality: First time ever I've slept in a gypsy caravan!!! But this is no ordinary one. Brand new when we slept here, it's like walking into a sauna room, full of Swedish pine, a really good size bed, flat screen TV on the wall and at the rear end, a comfortable sized shower and toilet room.
There are at the moment just 3 caravans, but with plans to bring in more, as they do have space. A very enjoyable nights sleep and stay, as we also had an evening meal and breakfast here.
In all, I paid 103 euros for our nights stay, including the evening meal and breakfast for the two of us.

Aux Gorges du Dourdou: In the Valley
In searching for a place to stay in or near Conques 15 years ago , we found this Inn just 3 km north on the D901 in the village (pop. 500) of Grand-Vabre (long ago one word without the hyphen). It is still there with 16 rooms and a surprisingly large restaurant. Each room has a full bathroom and is comfortable and clean. It prepares local cooking (take demi-pension). We were even able to get a good Cahors wine and took two nights to finish it. We also drank their cider. Another dividend in staying here was the ability to look at the small town (Off the Beaten Path Tip) and examine the valley up to the entry of the Dourdou River into the Lot only 3 km away. This region is a secret get-away place for outdoors people with hiking (randonnees), kayaking, cycling and fishing (See our Sports Tip). The proprietors were very helpful.
