Comfort Hotel Du Lac

A well named hotel.

We were heading for Foix and originally pinpointed Hotel Lons in the centre of town but then came across Hotel du Lac, a rurally located Logis a little north of town.
Both hotels are part of the Logis de France Group and I found them in the International Guide published by Logis de France.

The building is an old, extended and changed hunting lodge.
It is difficult to judge a hotel out of, or at low season when there may be hints of a lack of TLC, grounds less well kept, and few staff and guests about but at any time of the year this Hotel has Location, Location, Location.

We had a freshly decorated, reasonable size room with very comfortable beds and lovely linen, an adequate bathroom in need of a little updating, free WiFi access and tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

And a VIEW .
We could have had a room on the first floor with a balcony but felt the view from a second floor window would be better.

On our first night we had an enjoyable meal in the conservatory dining room overlooking the lake, but felt just a little pressured into making our choices from the few "recommended specials" offered verbally, and ended up with a bottle of wine that appeared on the Bill at twice the price quoted by the waitress - bringing the bill for dinner for two to 80 euros - rather more than we usually pay.
The service was rather too casual and I had the feeling very few staff were actually on the premises.
So few that the the keys of the grand piano which was close to our table tinkled away all evening without a pianist to be seen. Rather a strange, ghostly sight!
Decor was a mixture of old and new which made me wonder if the hotel is either about to undergo a refurb or may be having trouble in surviving.
The lakeside Base de Loisirs, open in July and August only, may generate more custom and income toenable some needed improvements in the general upkeep of the grounda and building to be made.
The room rate was 75 euros, and 8 euros 50 per person for a generous petit dejeuner.

Unique Quality: The location of the hotel and its position on the lake are the best things. Although almost on a main road it is down a short lane and there was no traffic noise at all.

In spite of some reservations we would certainly go back if passing that way again.
