Taxi from train station

by ajc_dvo

Hello VT's,
How much is the taxi fare from Lourdes train station to 99 Rue dela Grotte? Is it safe to travel around 11pm from airport to downtown?
Thanks for your help.

Downtown is actually a short walk downhill from the train station. When I was in Lourdes, as a ignorant traveller, we took a taxi at the station, asking the female driver to take us to the Hotel Ibis. That began a very long and circuitous taxi ride to the hotel. Two days later, I realized that the hotel was only a couple of blocks from the station. And the hotel is at the edge of downtown. Avoid a restaurant called "Le Cardinale".

whoops...forgot your question re: safety. The town seems totally safe at all hours. I woud not hesitate to walk anywhere in Lourdes at anytime.

Travel Tips for Lourdes

some good and bad about Lourdes

by diner

We went in late Feb., and early March. Very few tourists there. Lovely 9AM masses in English in the tiny old chapel atop the basilica. Beautiful mosaics behind the altar; the sidewalls are filled with beautiful and varied smooth marble sections contributed by folks as memorials, and dated from about 1862. AVOID Le Cardinale restaurant (across McDonalds) at all costs... rude and boorish owners, tasteless "food". BEST spot to eat was the unpretentious "Le Palacio Restaurant, 26 Place du Champs Commun. Facade was uninviting, but inside was spotless, nicely cloth-covered tables....superb food, wonderful, friendly service, imaginative menu, modest prices.
Hotel Ibis was good place to stay. Across Hotel Ibis is a tiny internet business...offering access for nominal fee. Hard to say.....many sweet old villages in the area....easy to get to them....mountains lovely....people warm and friendly....tiny cafes with surprisingly good meals....
