I'am traveling to Italy the second week of this month and and I want to visit Lourdes in France, how far is it from Rome and how can I get there?
Lourdes is a very long way from Rome - almost 1,500 kilometers by car. www.trenitalia.com (the Italian railways website) won't even give a solution for Rome-Lourdes, but if you look at Rome-Toulouse (still at least 100 kilometers short of Lourdes), the train trip is 19 hours. Ouch.
You might try looking into discount flights from Rome to Barcelona, then taking a train or bus up to Lourdes, but this is likely to be an all-day adventure as well.

Just to confirm than Lourdes will be difficult to reach. Even from Barcelona it will not be possible as daytrip. Tolouse is closer, but I'm not sure how easy is to reach Lourdes from there on public transport (I did by car).
If you have only a week in Rome, you should really consider if spending at least 2 whole days travelling to and from Lourdes is worth to you.
Many visitors to Lourdes make the day trip to the mountains, usually to Gavarnie. Saint Savain is a small village about half way, that has character, and a wonderful viewing point (as well as a couple of cafes!) Its peacefulness make it a wonderful place to make a pit stop.
