Old World Style....
I was extremely comfortable during my stay at the Hotel Moderne. From the welcoming and efficient check in to the sad check out two days later, I felt privileged to be enjoying style and elegance that I have found in very few places (if any.) The Hotel was built by the Soubirous family (Bernadette's family) in 1896 and still remains in the family.
The location right across from the Sanctuaries cannot be improved upon. Not only is the hotel close to the Grotto but to everything else as well. Plenty of good restaurants around not to mention all the souvenir shops that Lourdes is rightly or wrongly famous for.
I would recommend the Moderne to others very readily, though I believe that there have been renovations since I was there in 2005 and the room rates have increased accordingly.
Unique Quality: My room was huge with twin beds, a Juliet balcony and a huge old fashioned bathroom with a deep bath tub. My only complaint was that there was no shower as I have bad knees and find getting in and out of a bath tub a trifle difficult at times.
There is a beautiful big restaurant in the lobby, though I must admit that I have not eaten there as I found the prices a bit out of my budget range.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I certainly recommend the Hotel Moderne to people who are looking for that something extra special whilst staying in Lourdes.
