Bathing in the water

by vac

I will be in Lourdes in July. Does anyone know if one needs to make "reservations" to actually bathe in the water? How does this work? Will I be in line for hours? Please help me. It is imperative that I accomplish this.
Thank you for any help.I will be coming from Toulouse, but I don't get there until 4:30 pm. Is it best to strike out for Lourdes next day a.m.? Should I plan to stay 24 or 48 hrs. to accomplish this? Will it be terribly hot? What's the norm in July. Thank you for any part of this that you can answer.

Here is some information and the official Lourdes web site below it.

From April to October:
Week-days: 09.00 am - 11.00 am / 2.30 pm - 4.00 pm
Sundays and Holidays: 2.00 pm - 4.00

From November to March:
Week-days: 10.00 am - 11.00 am/ 3.00 pm - 4.00 pm
Sundays and Holidays: 2.30 pm - 4.00 pm

Practical Information:
Entry is free.
You need bring nothing with you.
Everything required for modesty is provided.
In the summer there can often be up to an hour or more wait.

You can arrange to stay at Lourdes through the web site if you like. It could be quite warm in July. On the other hand, it could be a bit cool. I wore a jacket in July once. Wear layers so you can add or take away sweaters if necessary. It might be most comfortable if you planned to spend the night there and return to Toulouse the following day.

I hope your journey is successful. Please check the web site above. It is full of very useful information regarding a visit to Lourdes.

Sorry, you didn't mention whether or not you are handicapped. If you are, they have volunteers who push you in a very large wheelchair type vehicle so that if you have to wait for an hour or more, you are quite comfortable. There is no charge.

The web site has information on this.

Travel Tips for Lourdes

Jubilate 1858-2008

by Emmjai

It is 150 years since the apparitions, and Lourdes are celebrating the event. So it should be a good year for a visit. Many of the places of interest have received a face-lift, and the little town is even more welcoming than usual.
