Vaulted passage to the market
by JLBG
There are many vaulted passages in Millau. This vaulted passage, not allowed for cars, leads to Place Foch and Place Emma Calvé where every Wednesday and Friday morning, the market is held, both in the open and in the covered market.
Coat of arm
by JLBG
On some of the older doors coats of arm are carved. This one has a rose at the bottom and stars in various places. I don't know its meaning and to whom it belongs. This is not the coat of arm of the city of Millau which is "D'or à quatre pals de gueules, au chef d'azur chargé de trois fleurs de lis d'or".
The top belvedere
by JLBG
The top belvedere offers a general view on the whole chaos. The path is slippery when wet, which was the case on our visit ! The Causse (the plateau) in the background is barren while the chaos has a very rich vegetation : when it rains on the Causse, water infiltrates very fast and waters the chaos. However, when hiking, you should not rely on springs. There are none, so bring your water with you. Soil water is for plants, not for you !
Enjoying views from great heights

"Millau - great for outdoor life"
If you enjoy outdoor type activities in beautiful landscapes then Millau is a perfect base for a holiday in this part of southern France.
Before the famous Viaduct or Bridge in the Sky was opened many people only knew Millau as a terrible bottleneck as they had to travel around it at a snails pace during summer weekends. Now that the new motorway is finished with it's superb bridge complete all of that seems to have changed and you can enjoy the town and it environs for what they can offer without all of the traffic hassles. There's plenty to do here including Parapente and canoeing on the Tarn.
We enjoyed a week camping near the town in the summer of 2007. The tips I provide give more detail on some of the activities you can do in the region.
