Les Gorges du Tarn

by GUYON

A beautiful road, with two lanes (one by direction), follows the River Tarn which stays in its Canyon.
Sometime, the road crosses the rock.

''Le ventre de Millau''

by JLBG

As the Halles in Paris were called ''le Ventre de Paris'', these covered market are called ''Le ventre de Millau''. They are one of the few remaining samples of this architecture.

The sign says :
Au Coeur des aménagements Haussmaniens du Millau de la belle époque, les Halles sont le symbole toujours vivant du modernisme de la fin du XIXe siècle.

The cliffs around the chaos

by JLBG

Around the chaos Montpellier-le-Vieux stand white cliffs. It is the border of the plateau. The chaos is a huge part of the former plateau that for millions of years has been submitted to water erosion. But how ?

Northwards view from the belvedere.

by JLBG

From the belvedere, the northwards landscape is completely different from what it was on the other side. In this direction, erosion has carved a deep valley, with steep sides. The belvedere is overlooking the Dourbie gorges and the Causses.

Center of Cevennes

by mickebear

Since the new motorway bridge crosses the valley, you won't be too bothered by the traffic jams of Millau. They have been infernal. The bridge crossing the valley is highest and longest viaduct in the world, and the tallest pylon is actually 343 m height!!!
