Starting afresh!

by katherine1

I am planning to move over to Toulouse by the end of the year, and was wondering if anyone knew of any agents who let out appartments, as i can't find anything on the internet!
Also, are there any jobs for those with little french? A friends reccomended a bar where i can pick up some french? are there many bars that speak english?
please send any info!

There are lots of immobilieres in the city centre that will help you with finding furnished / unfurnished apartments for a fee. The best bet is to buy la depeche du Midi and check out the "annonces" (ads) for apartments. If you are on your own you will find it pretty expensive, but you can ususally also find flat shares. If going for an apartment, furnished are also more expensive, so maybe look for something that has a minimum of cuisine equipee (cooker, pans etc) and build up the rest yourself as this could work out cheaper in the long run. There are loads of bars, but you would probably have to have a fairly good grasp of French to find work. For english speaking / themed bars try the Frog & Rosbif job application on line( or de Danu Irish bar ( and scroll down for jobs info. There's also the London Town pub, The Dubliners & The Melting Pot to give you a start - bonne chance!

Travel Tips for Toulouse

The church of La Dalbade (continuation)

by Klod5

In the night of April 11, 1926, the arrow collapses.
A bell badly stowed, shaken by the wind of Autan, a piece of framework that explodes, of the probably too heavy materials, provokes the fall of the tower, badly constructed, putting an end to the quarrel of bell-tower between St.-Sernin and The Dalbade.

M and Mrs. Denax, bakers, were the two only victims of this disaster. In spite of several decisions and a beginning of yard, the bell-tower always remained amputee of its high part.

Les Augustins

by Klod5

The museum is installed in the former convent of Augustins. You will be able to admire the cloister that remains a hâvre of peace. Around the cloister and in the hall of the low, numerous statuary of the middle age (beautiful collection of gargoyles). One whole room is dedicated to the low marquees of columns of the numerous cloisters of the region. In the floors, you will be able to see in the lounges of the collections of pictures of the rebirth to the impressionists, and of the statuaries of the XIX th century. Don't also miss the cooked earths, that are a specificity of the region.

Plane over to the city

by Klod5

Vraiment !

Here is a particularity that always astonishes the visitors :
Toulouse is constantly overflown by planes that land or takes off the airport of Toulouse - Blagnac. The planes pass over to the of a part (to the south) of the city, and of the peripheral. When one is by plane, and that one arrives, of the right side of the device the panorama is superb !
Indeed !

Toulouse on Spanish hour

by Klod5 about El Andaluz

À la fois restaurant et bar à tapas, il propose des dîners spectacles à la sauce flamenco et des soirées dansantes. Tout ça dans une ambiance de folie, ce qui ne gâte rien.

At a time restaurant and tapas bar, it proposes of dinners spectacles to sauce flamenco and the dancing evenings. All that in an ambiance of madness, what doesn't spoil anything.

Pink brick

by Spincat

Actually, you can't miss the brick in this rose colured city!

Wander the streets of the old quarter and the Place du Capitole and you will see streets in Toulouse's lovely flat brick, often described as 'pink' , but it actually many shades in soft hues from pink-saffron to russet to coral; the bricks are a squashed oblong shape that makes creates a lovely textured effect on the walls .

Demand for the blue woad dye produced in the region created great wealth and woad merchants built fabulous mansions such as the Hotel d'Assezat, now an art gallery - see my tip on the gallery.
