Comfortable and near the centre
It's rare that you go blindly to a city, with nothing but a listing of the budget hotels near the train station and the centre, and that you are able to find absolutely great accomodations with little to no effort. That's essentially what happened to me with the Hotel du Taur, after making the decision to skip the train station hotels and treat myself to the centre of the city. The hotel is literally steps from the Place du Capitole, but is very quiet and secure. The staff, who are almost all Maghrebien, are extremely friendly and helpful. They speak English (although I used French, I heard them talking to English guests) and are very accomodating. The rooms and hallways are clean and well maintained, as are the facilities. All in all, probably some of the best accomodations I had in Spain and France. A single room costs 47 euro.
Unique Quality: The hotel has free wifi in the central lounge are (where there are couches and chairs) and you are likely able to receive the signal in rooms near the reception. Apart from the friendly staff and their willingness to help you with any problems you might have, the set up of the hotel is also quite charming. It is on two or three levels, with winding hallways and sometimes oddly shaped rooms. This helps give it a charming, unique feel missing from many of the mainstream, name-brand hotel chains.
